BIG things are happening at Slater Stables

For everyone that was wondering:

Word travels fast, and you may or may not have heard…

It’s April 1st, 2026 and Artois Equestrian is taking over Flying M Stables!

Many of us still remember Flying M as a hub for all things western - cattle sorting, penning, mounted posse, gameshows, barrel races, etc. This marks the start of a new chapter as Elliot brings his Friesian stallion, along with dressage and jumping programs to the barn. It would have been easy to close the doors to the public, but he’s graciously allowing me (and my primarily western clientele) to continue enjoying this facility as we have for so many years.

Roger Musgrove built this place and started it’s legacy decades ago. He left this earth February of 2011 and I took my first training horse under contract at Flying M in November of that same year. This place has truly been part of my journey from the beginning.

Change like this isn’t always easy, especially somewhere that holds so much history. But I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and the chance for a fresh start, while still honoring everything that’s been built here.

I want to give huge thanks to Elliot as well as all my devoted clients who’ve rode the waves and stuck with me through each and every change! Here’s to another new beginning at the same facility Roger built for us all those years ago.

Don’t forget about the Native Plant Sale next week.

The Festival countdown begins: one week until the big day! Accessibility notice: the Fairgrounds venue is relatively flat with some gradual hills. The general parking lot will be set up in the west field (where the carnival rides are located during the County Fair). We will not use the lower fields for parking.

Please note, there will be limited accessible parking available behind the main Fairgrounds office, as shown on the map.

Native Plant Festival & Sale
March 7th, 2026
10 - 3 PM
Thurston County Fairgrounds

There will be two order lines, one indoors in the Petersen Barn and another, outdoor line near the pick-up tent. You may self-select the line you wish to wait in. Be sure to visit the Welcome Booth first to receive your inventory list, a pencil to make notes with, and find other programs and services available from Thurston CD!

We'll see you on March 7th, 2026, from 10-3 PM, at the Thurston County Fairgrounds. Arrive early to secure your spot in line, and don't forget to visit the 20+ vendors in the Vendor Hall (Sokolik Building). The parking lot will open at 9:30 AM. The walk-up sale opens at 10 am sharp.

The festival will also serve as a drop off location for the Thurston County Food Bank. Bring a bag of food with you on March 7th to drop off in the parking lot, and we'll bring it over to the Thurston County Food Bank.

Happy Plant Sale!

Kiperts Korner Feed – Retirement Announcement

Kiperts Korner Feed started in 1990 from absolutely nothing. We bought a semi-truckload of straw, a semi-truckload of alfalfa, 500 bales of local grass hay, and 8 tons of Darigold grain. I had no business background—just street smarts and a love for feed stores.

From day one my goal was simple: work hard, have fun, and surround myself with good people—customers and co-workers. I wanted old-fashioned service, a clean environment, and to be well respected throughout the community.

I was told more than once that I wouldn’t make it. One time, an owner from a large chain store even came to my parking lot and told me, ā€œI’ll run you out of business!ā€ I just smiled, put my hand on his shoulder and said, ā€œI find it quite interesting you’re in my parking lot telling me this. Seems like you’re more worried about me than I am of you.ā€

A few years later… they packed up and left. Funny how that works.

Over the years, we’ve been honored with countless awards for dealer sales excellence and community involvement, earned founder awards for Tumwater’s 4th of July Parade, donated countless hours and dollars back to surrounding communities, and held an amazing Anniversary Sale year after year—along with so many other memories I’ll carry forever.

Now I’m making a very hard decision—but it’s one by choice, not forced. I’ve always worked three times as hard for everyone else than for myself, and at this stage in life, I’d like my plate to be a little less full.

So, with a lot of emotion and a lot of gratitude, Kiperts Korner Feed will be closing with a projected closing date of March 31, 2026.

Kiperts Tractor and Trailer Sales will remain in operation.

I know some people will understand this decision and some won’t—and that’s okay. What I want everyone to know is this: I am truly grateful for every single person who has ever walked through the doors of Kiperts Korner Feed. You helped build something special.

Please watch for select specials on certain products as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our staff. They have truly given it their all for 35 great years.

This is a Retirement Sale—we don’t need to blow the doors off everything—but we do want to say thank you in a meaningful way.

Take care, my friends. I truly had a blast. ā¤ļø
