Rafiki has been making great leaps and bounds in his training and is doing so wonderfully! He’s had some people coming to meet him and he’s done so great with meeting lots of new people and being handled by lots of new people. We went back to the obstacle course to get more solid on them and for the extra exposure and he was so amazing! The only things he was not 100% about were the three pool noodle obstacles but he ended so wonderfully calm and confident with all of them. I will add videos into the comments of this post of him going through them. I had him go forwards and backwards through them. Such a good boy! If I had more time with him I’d start doing saddle training and saddle starting. He’s so ready!

Don’t forget to get your bids in on this stunning boy with brains and try to boot! Here’s the link to bid! And in case you need a reminder, he’s aged at 5 by the BLM but I believe he’s likely 4 instead, he’s about 15.1, and out of South Steens. We will be competing NEXT WEEKEND! Not sure how that’s snuck up on us so quickly! If you have any questions about him or would like to come meet him please reach out! You will love him 💕

For Your Consideration:

Boone is a titled 6 year old BLM mustang gelding out of the South Steens HMA. He stands about 14.2-14.3 hands tall and is very stout and sturdy. He looks and feels bigger than he really is due to his width. Boone is a sweet boy with a big, goofy personality. He was started under saddle last fall and did very well and then had the winter and spring off. He has been brought back to me for continued training and to be tuned back up. He has come back into riding as if he never had any time off. He has a nice walk/ trot/ lope and responsive woah undersaddle. He is sensitive and responsive but not reactive. He can be spooky at times, but that’s gets less frequent with consistent work. His spooks are also pretty easy to handle. He would do the best with someone wanting to ride him frequently due to him being spookier with time off. I think he’d be happiest with a job. He would do awesome with anything cow related and is fast and athletic enough to do the gaming events or roping. He can also go slower when asked. He leads, loads, hard ties and cross ties, baths, has been desensitized to and goes over a variety of obstacles, hobbles, lunges, tacks up easy and quiet, can be ridden bitless or in a bit, moves off leg well and rates your seat well, learning to collect, can haunch turn, forehandnd turn, and sidepass, and back all from the ground and undersaddle, and more!

PM me to come meet your next life long partner or with any questions. He’s currently located just outside of Tumalo Oregon. Asking mid $x,###.

I just realized I’ve been the absolute worst about posting! Don’t take my lack of posting as lack of progress for Rafiki or any of my client horses for that matter. Everyone is doing amazing, but Rafiki has turned into a totally new horse! He’s so so much quieter, more confident, and consistent as well as just showing more personality and being incredibly kind and seeking people out! It’s too bad our time together is almost up because I think if I had another month he’d be going great under saddle. I would like to extend the offer to continue training this gorgeous horse for whoever buys him! I would really love to do that. Please enjoy all the things we’ve done together since June! He’s had body work, gone to an extreme obstacle course, has been getting handled and caught by new people, been working on making everything he knows sharper and more crisp for the competition, we’ve taken some stunning pictures both ourselves and from the amazing photographer Photography! He’s looking so good and so healthy! I will be making comparison collages next!

I’ve been keeping a secret 🤫

We have officially relocated to Bend Oregon area! It has been a dream of mine for awhile and I’ve been keeping my eye out, knowing the perfect place would present itself when the time was right. To say I’m in heaven is an understatement! The night we got our last load of horses brought over I was blessed with the most spectacular sunset. I’m a sunset fanatic so this felt like an amazing sign to me. I’m so incredibly excited about this new chapter in our life! Enjoy pictures of the beautiful facility, the horses settling in, and the stunning sunset 😍

Rafiki has been such an awesome boy and has been doing so well. Since my last update he’s earned full time turn out and is no longer being penned up even overnight, we’ve started doing in hand trotting, he’s gotten his hind feet trimmed, been doing lots of hard tying, worked on loading in a trailer, and as of yesterday was moved to my training barn! So he got to experience and indoor arena for the first time as well as sniff and check out all the scary thing in it. He handled everything so well! We also did a mini photoshoot. Now that I have him over there we will be doing tons of desensitizing and obstacles and I plan to get him saddled for the first time her soon as well!

Check out his 1 month comparison from the wild horse I picked up to the horse he is today! This gelding has made so much progress both physically and mentally! He was a rack of bones with ulcers, horribly long feet, body soreness, and a big ball of nerves that couldn't allow himself to relax and settle. Now not only has he gained and incredible amount of weight, he is gaining confidence, emotional stability, physical comfort and overall relaxation. His feet are trimmed and he's thriving. His goofy and sweet as pie personality is starting to shine through. We're only about a month in and there's already been this much great change! I can't wait to see where we are at by competition! Go Rafiki!

Much overdue update on the stunning Rafiki! Rafiki has been making good, steady progress. I determined that I believe he had ulcers, his body was in need of some serious body work as well as his feet being so overgrown with his bars growing into his frog, and he was pretty severly underweight so I decided to address all his physical issues before really working on pushing his training and it has made a huge difference! He was struggling to let down his guard and retain sessions and now he’s making huge strides in his training! Recently we’ve accomplished our first hose down, trimming his front feet, picking up all four feet, lunging at the walk and trot both direction out in the arena, tying, and being socialized to and loved on by new people. He’s getting so much quieter and more confident through his everyday things and taking on new challenges. I’m so pleased with him and so excited to really start our training now! Here’s a bunch of pictures of him. Also I know one of my friends needs a new dressage mustang because 😍 his movement is to die for!

Day #2 with Rafiki did not disappoint! I’ve been super sick all day and only started feeling good enough to work him around sunset so don’t have much for pictures or pictures of quality for that matter but his progress overlooks that! I spent about an hour to an hour an a half with him today and we had so many firsts and his personality is really starting to come out. He’s such a sweet and goofy boy with lots of curiosity and try to boot. I hit the lottery with him. Today I got right to work on grabbing his lead and teaching him to softly come off a feel. Once he got the basic concept I grabbed a halter and lead and switched that onto him so I wasn’t working with a nasty lead and so he could get some relief from his other itchy halter. He was spectacular for all of this. I worked on teaching him to lead some more and he progressed rapidly. I decided to change course and work on getting him brushed. I was able to brush his entire body except for his under belly, legs, and tail as I wanted this to be an all around rewarding first experience. I was able to shed him out with a shedding blade on both sides and his forehead that was super hairy, take a body brush all over, and brush out his mane and forelock. He was absolutely spectacular and through this we became a lot more bonded and he wanted nothing more than to trust me. If he ever felt nervous and wanted to leave, he’d immediately turn back and come right back to me asking for reassurance and to try again. I ended my session with teaching him the basic concept of forehand turns on both sides and he was wonderful! To wrap everything up I took of his halter and loved on him from both sides halterless and then fed him his dinner. This gelding is nothing short of spectacular! My mare from last year was HARD and it’s such a relief and breath of fresh air to have such an easy horse this go round. He’s gotta be top 3 easiest adult horse gentles I’ve done 💕

Tag #8584 will now be known as Rafiki. Rafiki means friend in Swahili. I know we will be the best of friends! He has an amazing personality with so much try and kindness. He asks all the right questions and puts his best hoof forward. In less than an hour his tag was off and he was feeling pretty confident and relaxed. Loving this handsome boy so much already!

I’d like to introduce everyone to my new stunning partner for this years Teens And Oregon Mustangs summer competition. He is 5 years old and about 15.1. He was marked as “hot” for our selection pictures, but I have no doubt he will be amazing! He already wants to seek me out. He was happy to stand to the front of the pen up by us rather than hide at the back of his stall. I’m super excited about him! He already has a name picked out and it will be revealed when his tag comes off and he’s no longer a number 💕
