Happy World Goat Day! 🐐 Our Contact Yard in the Children’s Zoo is one of our favorite spots because it’s where guests can form close-up connections with animals like our goats and sheep.

You may notice that goats have rectangular-shaped pupils! This unique eye shape helps them see nearly 320–340 degrees around them, which is perfect for keeping an eye out while grazing! 👀🌿

Rudo, Sally and Hodari love a good mud wallow - not just for fun, but for function! 🦏 Rolling in mud helps keep their skin cool, provides a layer of protection from the sun, and even works as a natural bug repellent.

Meet Sooky, the matriarch of our Asian elephant herd! 🐘 In this video, Keeper Avery shares how browse, fresh, edible plant material, provides Sooky with both nutrition and enrichment.🌿

Browse encourages natural foraging behaviors, giving our elephants the opportunity to chew leaves and explore new scents and textures.

Then vs. Now: Dsungaripterus, Quetzalcoatlus & Tulsa Zoo’s Winged Wonders! 🦅🦇🦖
At Zoorassic World: Frozen in Time, you’ll encounter the Dsungaripterus and Quetzalcoatlus, prehistoric pterosaurs (flying reptiles, not birds or bats!) that ruled the skies millions of years ago. With impressive wingspans and specialized adaptations, these ancient fliers soared over oceans, coasts and prehistoric plains.

Today, you can see modern masters of the air right here at Tulsa Zoo, from our bald eagle with its powerful wings built for gliding and hunting, to our Seba’s short-tailed bats with their agile, rapid wingbeats perfect for navigating the night sky. 🦅🦇

Come explore the soaring past and the winged wonders of today at Zoorassic World: Frozen in Time, open through September 1! Learn more: https://tulsazoo.org/roar

William S. Smith African Wilds construction update! 🚧🦒🐾 The future Helmerich Meerkat Exhibit, Hardesty Family Giraffe Encounter and a brand-new concessions area are taking shape!

The Helmerich Meerkat Exhibit will feature spacious outdoor viewing for our mob, plus the Stuart Family Foundation Meerkat Cave, a fun walk-through experience that exits near a window into the meerkat dayroom. Right next door, the Hardesty Family Giraffe Encounter will give guests an additional area to view the tallest animals on earth. And just steps away, you’ll be able to grab a snack or drink from a brand-new concessions area.

A huge thank you to our current and future project partners for helping us build a bigger, better Tulsa Zoo. 🧡 Help us reach our fundraising goal and make a donation today: https://heyor.ca/3IoUvl

It’s a flamingo baby boom! 🦩 We’re celebrating FOUR flamingo chicks that recently hatched here at the Tulsa Zoo! Each chick hatched behind the scenes in incubators, which allowed our bird team to safely monitor egg development and the hatching process. After each chick fully hatched, they were given a health check by our veterinary team and carefully reunited with the flock on exhibit. Two chicks are being raised by their biological parents, while the other two are being cared for by foster pairs.

In the video, you will see our youngest chick being reunited with its foster parents, Troy and Norah! All parents immediately took over sitting on the chicks and began feeding within a few hours. Fun fact: each chick also has a unique vocalization, which their parents use to recognize them among the group! 💗

It’s World Elephant Day! 🌏🐘 We’re so grateful for the opportunity to care for this incredible species (for 70+ years and counting!), and share with our guests every day about what makes these animals so special. Asian elephants are endangered with only about 40,000-50,000 left in the wild. They face threats like habitat loss, human-elephant conflict and poaching. However, there’s still plenty we can do to help even here in the United States! Here’s how:

🌿 Visit the Tulsa Zoo! A portion of every ticket supports conservation partners like the International Elephant Foundation, working to protect elephants in the wild. Learn more about IEF and their incredible work here: https://elephantconservation.org/
🌴 Choose wildlife-friendly products made from sustainable palm oil!
💝 Support conservation organizations – Donations, memberships and symbolic adoptions help fund field projects that protect wild elephants.
🐘 Spread awareness – Share what you know about the challenges elephants face to inspire others to take action. You'd be surprised how even one conversation can make a difference!
