This week is all about celebrating our people — the ones who make Pet Medical Center who we are!

From our doctors, to our CSRs who greet you when you walk through the door, to our veterinary technician and veterinary assistants caring for your pets behind the scenes — every single person plays an importan in what we do each day.

There is a lot of things that happen between the moment you walk through our doors and the moment you leave. There are laughs, hugs, puppy kisses, cat scratches, busy days, hard days, happy tears and sometimes sad ones. Through it all, this team continues to show up, work together and give their very best to our patients and their families.

And we couldn’t celebrate our staff without saying a huge THANK YOU to our amazing clients! The kindness, encouragement, trust and appreciation you show our team means more than you probably realize. Thank you for trusting us with the pets you love and for allowing us to be a part of their lives.

🎉🐾 STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK AT PET MEDICAL CENTER! 🐾🎉

This week we are celebrating the amazing team that makes Pet Medical Center what it is! ❤️

We have some fun activities planned to give our hardworking staff a little time to relax, have fun, and enjoy each other outside of the clinic. Because of this, we will have a couple of changes to our regular business hours this week.

🎳 THURSDAY
Our office will be CLOSED from 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM while our team enjoys lunch and a little friendly competition at the bowling alley! We will REOPEN at 3:00 PM.

🍦 FRIDAY
Our office will be CLOSED from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM for lunch followed by an ice cream outing! We will REOPEN at 2:30 PM.

Please plan ahead for medication pickups, food purchases, appointments, and phone calls during these times.

📣 Be sure to follow us this week! We’ll be sharing some of the fun as we celebrate the wonderful people who work so hard every day to care for our patients and clients.

Meet Dino & C**t, two handsome 5-month-old boys who came in together for their booster vaccines !

Sometimes having your best buddy right beside you makes a trip to the veterinarian a whole lot easier. These two were all about giving each other confidence, sharing a few treats, and proving that everything is better with your best friend by your side.

Bringing puppies in for their booster vaccines is an important part of helping them build strong immunity as they grow. Staying on schedule with vaccines helps protect them from preventable diseases and keeps them healthy for all of life’s adventures ahead!

🐾 “How should I bring my cat to the vet?” 🐾

We get this question all the time, and Dixie is here to show one of our favorite options!

Meet Dixie, rocking her adorable cat bag during her visit to Pet Medical Center. These cat bags are a great way to safely transport your feline friend while helping reduce stress. They allow your cat to feel secure, are easy to carry, and make it simpler for our team to perform an exam without causing unnecessary anxiety.

We also recommend:

🐾 Using a sturdy, well-ventilated carrier or cat bag.
🐾 Placing a familiar blanket or towel inside for comfort.
🐾 Bringing your cat in hungry if treats may help distract them (unless instructed otherwise).
🐾 Covering the carrier with a light towel if your cat is nervous—it can help them feel more secure.

A calm trip to the veterinarian starts before you even leave home, and choosing the right carrier can make all the difference!

Meet Bella! 🐾💙

If you’ve been by Pet Medical Center this summer, you’ve probably seen Bella around the clinic! Since school has been out, she’s been spending time with us learning all about veterinary medicine.

Bella will be a junior at Coffee County Central High School this fall and is an active member of FFA. She has big dreams of becoming a veterinarian, and we’re excited to help her take the first steps toward that goal.

This week, Bella got to help with Tucker’s very first veterinary visit! 🐶 From welcoming new puppies to learning how we help make their first visit a positive experience, every day is a chance to learn something new.

As school starts back, you’ll still be seeing Bella around! She’ll be working with us in the afternoons after school, continuing to learn and grow alongside our team.

We love supporting students who are passionate about animal care and investing in the next generation of veterinary professionals. Who knows—one day, Bella may be the veterinarian caring for your pets!

🦷 What’s Happening Below the Gumline? You Can’t Always See It! 🦷

When your pet comes in for a dental procedure, there’s so much more happening than just cleaning the teeth you can see.

These photos show Shelby carefully cleaning Eleanor’s teeth while she is safely under anesthesia, while Dr. Nickels reviews Eleanor’s dental radiographs (X-rays). Dental radiographs are one of the most important parts of every professional dental procedure because they allow us to evaluate what is happening below the gumline where over half of each tooth is hidden.

Many painful dental conditions can’t be seen during a routine exam or even by looking at clean teeth. Dental radiographs help us identify:
🦷 Tooth root abscesses
🦷 Bone loss from periodontal disease
🦷 Deep pockets around the teeth
🦷 Fractured tooth roots
🦷 Retained roots
🦷 Tooth resorption and other hidden problems

Pets are incredibly good at hiding dental pain. They often continue eating and acting normal, even when they have significant disease. By the time a problem is visible on the surface, it may have been causing discomfort for quite some time.

Meet Alfred! It looks like someone thought if he hid well enough, he could avoid his exam and vaccines. We hate to break it to him we still found him!

While vet visits aren’t always a pet’s favorite adventure, routine wellness exams and vaccinations are one of the best ways to keep them healthy and happy for years to come. Alfred was a very brave boy once the hiding game was over!

Meet Gigi!

After being diagnosed with bladder stones, Gigi’s family committed to feeding her Hill’s Prescription Diet c/d as recommended by Dr. Gesell. Today, we’re excited to share that her follow-up ultrasound shows her bladder stones have completely resolved without surgery!

Not every bladder stone can be dissolved with a prescription diet, but certain types, such as struvite stones, can often be successfully managed with the right nutrition and close veterinary monitoring. Gigi’s case is a wonderful example of how following a treatment plan can make a huge difference!

If your pet is showing signs of:
🐾 Frequent urination
🐾 Straining to urinate
🐾 Blood in the urine
🐾 Urinating in unusual places
🐾 Discomfort while urinating

Don’t wait because these can be signs of bladder stones or other urinary issues that should be evaluated by your veterinarian.
