A homeowner was greeted with that startling commercial grade sprinkler sound when she walked into get backyard. We were called out to assist while the owner kept an eye on the suspect at a distance through a gap in the fence... at least they thought they were. Turned out they had just been keeping a watchful eye on a piece of mesquite bark as the snake had stealthily retreated into the adjacent wood pile. It was quickly located and moved to a more suitable area nearby.

A homeowner called late in the evening after finding a snake in his garage. Turned out to be a Sonoran whipsnake, which we rarely get called to remove/rescue as there are not a lot of things that slow these guys down. However, a garage door left open for too long and a plethora of glue traps along the edges of the garage were all that was needed for this active and speedy snake to brought to a halt. We were able to assist with the removal from the garage, safely free it from the glue traps, and restore it to its native habitat.

Another feisty Western Diamondback getting moved from a patio in Tucson. These ones always make capture more interesting.

How many strikes did this Western Diamondback get off before it found the bottom of the bucket?

Sometimes they just sit their and let you capture them with the snake tongs and sometimes they put on their full display of "Don't Tread on Me".

Relocated to a more suitable habitat to thrive as the horse property this one found wasn't ideal.

A call came in early yesterday for a couple of rattlesnakes in a backyard that were seen the night before when the homeowner was clearing up a pile of dead paloverde branches - a great place for cover in a new housing community. One of them had left out the drain block in its own and returned to the desert. This one was slow to move, so we helped it get back to us desert habitat.

Came across an unexpected situation at a community park a few months ago โ€” a rattlesnake tangled up in some landscape netting in a community park. ๐Ÿ

It had gotten so tightly entangled that it couldnโ€™t move, and it was clearly stressed. Fortunately for this snake there happened to be a member of the HOA waking through the park with her dog ๐Ÿ•, saw the ensnared snake and called us for assistance. With some patience (and careful cutting), we were able to free it from the netting and safely relocate it to a better spot away from foot traffic.

Itโ€™s a good reminder that things like loose netting, plastic fencing, and other yard materials can be real hazards for wildlife. A quick check or small adjustment can make a big difference.

Fortunately for this one, it got a second chance unlike countless others. ๐Ÿ’š

Found something this week that really drove home why glue traps are such a bad idea. I came across one with a rattlesnake and two lizards all stuck to it โ€” none of which were the โ€œpestsโ€ the trap was meant to catch.

It took time, patience, and a lot of care to safely free the two that were still viable. ๐Ÿ๐ŸฆŽ

Glue traps donโ€™t just snag rodents โ€” they catch anything that crosses their path, including our native wildlife that plays an important role in keeping ecosystems healthy. And once an animal is stuck, it becomes a dangerous and stressful situation for both the animal and the person trying to help.

If youโ€™re dealing with pests, please consider humane alternatives. Our desert neighbors deserve better. ๐Ÿ’š

Remember those 2 Western diamondback rattlesnakes from last Friday's post. Here they are being removed.

This call came in over the summer from a house sitter who stepped outside with the dogs and was immediately greeted by one of these 2 rattlesnakes. She called the owner and the owner wanted it gone, so she called us. By the time she called us it had retreated to a hole. Fortunately, that hole went to the crawl space under the patio where there was lots of pack rat activity, multiple snake sheds, and one more rattlesnake. Both were safely collected and relocated to nearby habitat outside the community.

While everyoneโ€™s hunting for Black Friday deals ๐Ÿ›๏ธ, snakes are hunting for warm hiding spots around homes and patios ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Just like these two Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes that found a great hideout underneath a homeowners patio (video next week).

As temperatures cool, they tuck themselves into garage corners, under grills, near planters, and beneath patio furniture.

If you spot one, donโ€™t grab a broom or try to move it โ€” just give us a call ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ™‚
We safely and humanely relocate snakes, protecting both people and wildlife ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š

Stay safe. Stay calm. Weโ€™ve got you covered ๐Ÿ‘

While it is possible to find a snake eating a turkey poult in parts of Arizona, you are more likely to see one eating a dove or quail. This particular rattlesnake was spotted multiple afternoons/evenings in the same week setup in it's classic ambush position. It was the monsoon season of 2014, so it was strategically setup near the edge of a pool of water in a creek bed. This unfortunate White Winged Dove stood little chance against the potent venom of the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.
Happy Thanksgiving!
