We’re excited to share that Autumn’s Dog Grooming is considering moving into our very own storefront! This potential new space will be located in the same shopping center on Tanque Verde/Grant, but we’re exploring the option of setting up our salon upstairs. We believe this transition could pave the way for a more personalized grooming experience for you and your furry friends.

I get asked this question daily-
"How often should my dog be groomed?"
Here are some of the things that determine grooming frequency:
- Coat type
- Coat length
- Skin & Coat condition
- Behavior
- Daily activity

I recommend all pups be at least bathed every four weeks whether you are doing it at home or bringing them in to us. Here’s why…

Routine Spa Days are essential for your pups, not just to keep them looking beautiful, but also to promote their overall health and well-being! Bathing helps to remove dirt, debris, allergens, and loose fur, which can prevent irritating skin conditions and keep their coat shiny and healthy. Plus, a good wash can help manage odors and keep your home smelling fresh!

Regular grooming sessions not only keep your pup feeling & looking their best, but also provide an excellent opportunity to check for any unusual lumps or skin issues.

Do Doodles Shed?

That’s the million dollar question that everyone wants to know, & the answer is YES.

When you breed a curly coat like a Poodle with a double coat like a Golden Retriever, the pup is born with a combination coat. They have both curly coat AND undercoat.

When you look under a microscope at doodle hair follicles, you can see that their hair does not grow in a synchronized pattern like a purebred dog. Since the hair follicles do not grow in sync with each other, this causes the coat to tangle more easily.

If a Doodle sheds, why are you not finding loose hair all over your house?

When the undercoat sheds, it clings to the curly coat which works like Velcro and holds all that hair in. It’s very important to brush and comb your doodle regularly not only to prevent matting, but also so that you can brush out the loose undercoat that is trapped in the curly coat. This trapped undercoat is one of the number one reasons that I see Doods matted.
