That post massage nap face πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈπŸ˜΄

I like to call this "going internal" where the outside world just fades away a little bit. They'll often continue to release in this state, I'll see blinking, licking, chewing, and yawning all signs that tension is leaving the body. I also notice them gently testing how their body is feeling by shifting their weight, stretching, bending joints, or tilting their head.

After a little while they "come back" their eyes brighten, their ears perk up, they'll walk somewhere. A lot of times this is where they'll roll or get water or show off for their neighbor.

It's so rewarding for me to watch them go through this process and help them get there through bodywork!

Those eyes πŸ‘€
Herbie was deep in processing his massage! We just did a little poll work and he was loving it.

Stepping back and letting horses really feel the affects of the work in doing is so impactful. Their eyes go soft and their lips droop πŸ’•

Not to mention that circulation increase! Check out those veins getting that blood moving.

πŸŒ… Golden hour and gray mares πŸŒ…

Lace has really been enjoying her sports massages. She is a part of my case study project, and she has been such a great participant!

Lace is an 11 year old quarter horse owned by Ellen Hollifield. They compete in trail courses and Western Dressage circuits where Lace can showcase her steady nature and good looks. We added massage to her routine to help bring a little more balance to her gaits and help her muscles recover faster after her workouts!

πŸ’•May your days be full of horses that smoosh your face πŸ’•

I'm so lucky to have a day job that's full of horses, but I'm luckier still because they're so sweet!

Rossi was thanking me for his session that .decesari uses as a part of her training program! I also get to work on him as a part of my massage program and he is one of the cuddliest!

πŸ™Œ This is what is all about πŸ™Œ
I had such an awesome time with DeCesari Equestrian at the team at the State Championship Show at WestWorld of Scottsdale this past weekend!

The whole reason I started learning about equine bodywork was to provide additional care from start to finish where traditional bodywork schedules may leave gaps and this was an awesome example of that!

Farentino was signed up for one of my "Intrductory Packages" so he had two weekly massages prior to the show and some shoulderopeners and neck openers at the show. And he won state champion at 3rd level, which I'm sure he would have done anyway!

🎯 That's the spot 🎯
It's no surprise that horses either love or hate work on their face. There are so many nerves and they're so sensitive.

Finding the right combination of pressure and stroke is where the magic happens. You can relieve a lot of tension that can relax the rest of the body too.

😴Love those sleepy "thank you"'s🀀
Just over here helping horses slip into that parasympathetic state where all the magic happens!

I love to do some gentle rocking of the hips or withers to help stimulate those relaxation signals. When the muscles are relaxed the tissues above them are too so I can do some deep tissue work!

Brendan's tell tale sign of being in a parasympathetic state are his eyes! They gloss over and his eyelids get so heavy. Even when he wraps around to say thanks he hardly opens them!

πŸ’« Magic Words πŸ’«
Words can weigh heavy on your perspective sometimes, changing "have to" into "get to" helps me keep things light.

It's easy to slip into a "work work work" mindset but the horses have a way of helping me slow down. They remind me that I "get to" work with them every day.

So tell me πŸ’¬
What does your horse do to remind you how lucky you are?

I'm up in Colorado taking a certification course for equine Sports Massage at ! So far the weather has been great and the curriculum is fascinating to say the least!

The horses I've practiced on this far have been such great teachers in their own ways. Some have been opinionated and others pretty easy and both bring such valuable things to the table. There have definitely been some pretty cool moments of connection thus far!

My instructor Devine Integrative Equine Therapy is doing an amazing job at presenting the course information in a digestible way that feels like a group of colleagues chatting about their field! It is awesome to feel like I'm a part of such a supportive group of students and mentors.

Huge thanks to Flights of Angels Equine Therapy LLC for giving me an awesome foundation in my therputic massage class last July. Its been awesome expanding my anatomy knowledge and digging in to more biomechanics!

The only downside is now I know that there's so much more I want to know!!
