It's that time of year again!..I have customers returning from hunts and making plans for upcoming ones. Like Elise who was very fortunate to harvest a trophy sized Bear in Canada. Big congrats to Elise...I want to remind and emphasize how important it is to notify your taxidermist before going on hunts abroad so you can get advised on skinning, field care, transportation of your trophies etc.. The mistake so many people make is overlooking this detail until they harvest something. It is wise to be well informed rather than entirely trust others to handle those details for you. Wether you are on a Bear hunt, Antelope, Elk, Deer, etc.... These animals are all very different and can require different handling and precautions. The best way to skin your trophies can vary...so please do yourself and your taxidermist a favor and be proactive. I have so many trophies come in each year with avoidable damage from improper skinning and handling. If you know someone on a hunt or planning one share this post with them so they understand the importance. Good luck to all on their hunting adventures..Be safe everyone...

I want to thank all my wonderful customers for another busy deer season here in Missouri. Congrats to all!.. lots of big bucks this year including these nice bucks that came in the end of rifle. I want to remind all that there continues to be delays at many tanneries including the one I use in Michigan. These delays started with covid shutdowns and continue due to labor shortages across the country. Not all taxidermists use tanneries so when you hear of someone getting a mount back quickly it is probably a taxidermist that is doing his own tanning in order to offer a faster turnaround time. Home tanning requires risks that I am not comfortable taking with customer items. You can expect a longer wait with any taxidermist using a commercial tannery. So please have patience with your taxidermist right now. When customers want status updates etc they only pull taxidermists away from working on mounts. I want to remind everyone that I need spare capes each year.. primarily bucks 3 1/2 and up in good condition. I pay $50 to $100 and sometimes more depending on size and condition. I need a couple right now for customers that had deer that were not skinned right or had a lot of damage. Please contact me if you harvest something before the seasons close or if you have one in the freezer you decide not to mount. Thank you for your continued patience right now. Happy holidays!!..Joe 636-290-6403

I heard the deer harvest for the 2021 season is down some but I can tell you there has been no shortage of big bucks. Many of the bigger bucks that have come in this season have been taken by female hunters. Big CONGRATS!! to these ladies for showing the men how to get it done....

One of the first Elk harvested in Missouri coming in this morning. I imagine not a lot of hunters new about the drawing. Only 19,000 applied for permits..5 issued and 3 harvested. Congrats to Sam Schultz for being one of the lucky hunters to participate in Missouri's first Elk hunt!

Attention all hunters and customers. As rifle season for deer begins here in Missouri I want to wish all a safe and successful hunting season. There is a lot of talk of big buck sightings so 2020 looks to be another great year to harvest a trophy buck. There are giants walking the woods of Missouri like the 70 pointer in my previous post. All deer from 2019 will be approximately 12 to 18 months turnaround time. I use a tannery located in Michigan and unfortunately I have experienced long delays related to covid-19 because of shutdowns at the tannery. I apologise to everyone for these delays. Please have patience this is an unusual year for sure. I want to remind all customers that I will be offering cash or credit for deer capes again this year. I need spare capes each year to replace ones that are damaged or skinned improperly. Primarily bucks 3 1/2 and older that are in good condition. It is best to send me a pic if possible..636-290-6403...also each year I try to get some venison for neighbors. For those that will be bringing a deer to me to mount and are planning on donating the meat at a processor you can contact me first to see if I am still accepting whole deer. Meat processors usually charge a fee to cape the deer even when donating the meat so you could save time and money by just bringing it here. Good luck to all and thank you to my wonderful customers for their continued support and patience as I try to get caught up.....Joe

Since it is deer season here in Missouri I thought this deer mount would be a good one to share right now. One thing great about Whitetails is they are all different and you never know when you could have an encounter with a freak like this. This was a free range Missouri deer that was hunted hard by locals but unfortunately died of natural causes. The rack was found in a delicate state and heavily damaged. I restored the rack and used a cape off another deer to put a mount together. More to this story to follow but for now get out and hunt and maybe..just maybe you will have an encounter with a giant like this!

Just picked up..I will miss having in my living room.. biggest free range from last year
