A HUGE thank you to the staff at for the time and space to work on Kion's veterinary care goals, especially Cat, who was kind enough to help us today, and her helper, whose name I unfortunately did not catch during our time together. Kion is working toward ear and eye exam care goals in this clip from today's session.
Kion let me know at what distance he was comfortable working from Cat by offering his chin rest to my hand. Notice that we are still a little further away than we will need to be for an actual ear/eye exam. Cat perfectly demonstrated an approximation of an exam by shining the otoscope light (we substituted a headlamp light here!) onto her own arm rather than jumping directly into shining the light into Kion's eye or ear. Kion is getting comfortable with his medical team moving and handling equipment while he offers his chin rest position! Then, I ask Kion if he'd like to move away and take a break on his mat. This was a big win for him today!
Thank you, also, to Laura Monaco Torelli - Animal Behavior Training Concepts for her expert coaching and suggestions as Kion and I continue to work toward his medical care goals!
