Standard Poodles deserve more credit than they are given 😮‍💨

There are SOOO many misconceptions about Standard Poodles, so let’s clear a few up!!

Misconceptions:
“They’re prissy or fragile.”
“They’re high maintenance.”
“They’re not working dogs.”

Reality:
🐩 Super athletic, they were bred to be duck dogs
🐩 Smart & easily trained
🐩 Loyal, social, and affectionate
🐩 Great with kids and other animals
🐩 Low shedding coat

But just like with any breed, it’s important to make sure your dog comes from a reputable source. If you’re purchasing, choose a breeder who truly prioritizes health, temperament, and proper care. And if you’re rescuing, make sure the shelter or rescue group provides proper medical care and evaluates temperament

My boy Junior is the perfect example of what makes this breed so special. Once you really get to know a Standard Poodle, it’s hard not to fall in love with them!!

Let’s talk about walks!!

Lately, my boys and I have been enjoying walking/hiking on the public trails near us. We go on trails that are unpaved and narrow, through wooded area and they LOVE it! Even though we live on a farm with plenty of space for them to explore, walking in new places opens up a completely different experience for them.

These type of walks have introduced my pups to so many valuable things & can do the same for yours:

- Confidence in unfamiliar areas
- Exposure to new people and pets
- Comfort around new sights and sounds like bikes and strollers
- Mental and physical stimulation
- ZERO anxiety during car rides (w/ frequency)
- Improved leash skills and recall

My new guy Milo has an intense fear of men that we have been working through. Daily exposure with me at the shop and these fun outings have been helping him so much!

If your pup is of higher anxiety, TAKE IT SLOW, but still give them the opportunity to experience the world.
