I had a couple of equines that wanted to be my valentine today! They got their pedicures and I got some sweet treats!

My client's daughter is so talented and drew me an awesome picture of their horses, along with a sweet little note! Totally made my day! 🥰

Happy Valentine's Day! 💕

Huckleberry used to be so nervous getting his hooves done, that he not allow his hinds to get trimmed without sedation. He now maintains a calm and trusting demeanor for his trims, without any sedation needed! Patience and understanding are key. Many horses that are labeled as “naughty” often have physical or mental barriers keeping them from being cooperative. It is always rewarding to make hoof trims an enjoyable experience for all! This transformation is near and dear to my heart. This sweet Miniature Horse named “Luna” came to me the summer of 2019 (top picture) as a rehab. Luna started suffering with founder. Her owner had given her to me in hopes I could help her at my facility. She was not able to offer her the special care she needed and wanted what was best for her. When I went to pick her up she was barely even able to make it into the trailer, taking small and slow steps to get up the ramp. I immediately changed her over to a simple and reasonably natural diet, put her on my (at the time partially complete) Paddock Paradise, and started getting to work on her hooves. My horses quickly warmed up to her and the three of them were soon great companions!

This spring, as Luna was greatly improving. Still working on growing out the rest of her damaged hooves but was feeling great and moving much more comfortably! Her hard and cresty neck was disappearing too! It was then that I decided to donate her to Mahala’s Hope, a non-profit organization as a therapy horse. She would be an asset to their program and would continue to get the special care and regular trims she needed.

Fast forward to December of 2020 (bottom picture). Luna is doing so well at her new home, she excels at her job as a therapy horse and is loved by the staff and all who visit her! This is her most recent trim, I heard she loves to run around with the other horses there and has lots of energy! A farewell to the founder, along with the inflammation, lameness, separation and rotation that had plagued her just the year before. Maintenance is the key to keeping Luna happy, sound and healthy and is for many others who are enjoying life free from the chains of founder and laminitis!

The final picture was her first arrival at her new home ❤️ I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome! I look forward to seeing her at each our regular trimming appointments!

EDIT: I have decided to add a donate button for Mahala's Hope, they do amazing things with the horses as well as the people who visit them 💕

I have been trimming this goofy Saddlebred gelding exclusively since he was born. As he’s matured, and now at 4 years old, he’s got great feet 😍

A lifetime of sound healthy feet begins from proper hoof care management from birth! If you’re expecting a foal next year I’d be happy to discuss an individualized hoof care plan. From handling hooves to the first trim, make sure you’re starting off on the right foot! 😉

The boys searching around the track for their little bits of alfalfa. I hide a flake of alfalfa in little handfuls around my track for the three of my horses to search and enjoy.

Horses are foragers by nature and either wild or domestic, are driven to search for their food. The more interesting we can make it for them, the more physical and mental stimulation we provide for our horses in captivity 💕

for·ag·er (noun)
a person or animal that searches widely for food or provisions.
"he is an expert forager who finds and eats healthy, local ingredients growing in the wild"

If you’re interested in Paddock Paradise, I would be happy to answer any questions!

12/1/20 TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY: The amazing things we have been able to do with this gelding in only 6 months! We have kept him on a 4 week schedule, each photo shows each of the trims and demonstrates "mass changes" happening with each application of The Natural Trim. We still have more progress to make but we are about halfway there! The heel has gradually been changing with each trim, becoming less and less contracted and run-under. Watch the heel bulbs in each of the photos, they are setting up to grow a much more supportive heel! The owner is seeing changes that she never thought possible in all the years she has owned him. I cant wait to re-share his progress in the next 6 months, stay tuned! 😏

I’ve had the great pleasure of working with this young gelding. I started with him back in November 2018 by taking off the “special shoes” put on for his continued lameness problems. With an unclear diagnosis from the vet on the cause of the lameness it was my goal to get his hooves balanced and barefoot. At the very least he would no longer have to suffer from crooked and long feet, deep sulcus thrush and contracted heels.

There have been ups and downs but we have made so much progress in the last two years! Not only do we have beautifully balanced feet, healthy frogs and a much wider heel base, you can even see the difference in his stance. He does have some bad days along with the good, but he is staying even more consistently sound ❤️
