This transformation is near and dear to my heart. This sweet Miniature Horse named “Luna” came to me the summer of 2019 (top picture) as a rehab. Luna started suffering with founder. Her owner had given her to me in hopes I could help her at my facility. She was not able to offer her the special care she needed and wanted what was best for her. When I went to pick her up she was barely even able to make it into the trailer, taking small and slow steps to get up the ramp. I immediately changed her over to a simple and reasonably natural diet, put her on my (at the time partially complete) Paddock Paradise, and started getting to work on her hooves. My horses quickly warmed up to her and the three of them were soon great companions!
This spring, as Luna was greatly improving. Still working on growing out the rest of her damaged hooves but was feeling great and moving much more comfortably! Her hard and cresty neck was disappearing too! It was then that I decided to donate her to Mahala’s Hope, a non-profit organization as a therapy horse. She would be an asset to their program and would continue to get the special care and regular trims she needed.
Fast forward to December of 2020 (bottom picture). Luna is doing so well at her new home, she excels at her job as a therapy horse and is loved by the staff and all who visit her! This is her most recent trim, I heard she loves to run around with the other horses there and has lots of energy! A farewell to the founder, along with the inflammation, lameness, separation and rotation that had plagued her just the year before. Maintenance is the key to keeping Luna happy, sound and healthy and is for many others who are enjoying life free from the chains of founder and laminitis!
The final picture was her first arrival at her new home ❤️ I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome! I look forward to seeing her at each our regular trimming appointments!
EDIT: I have decided to add a donate button for Mahala's Hope, they do amazing things with the horses as well as the people who visit them 💕
