As hunters we feel it is our duty to recover any game we persue, whether deer, dove, elk or exotic. The last thing we want is for an animal to suffer any longer than it should or worse yet, become a total loss.

If you're positive you've made a marginal shot (gut, liver, leg, etc) do yourself and your querry a favor and get a good team on the way asap. An injured buck may travel hundreds of yards, even miles, before bedding down and may not expire for several hours, if at all.

If you are on the track of your game and having doubts (trail thinning, large gaps between visible blood, not sure what trail animal went down) or even if your not seeing any blood but positive ya connected with your shot, seek the advice and assistance of a team.

Well trained and experienced dogs can help turn a bad situation into a successful hunt.

Great Bastrop county deer

Last week on our Jicarilla Cow elk hunt we found this awesome mule deer dead. Our guide was just going to sell it. I decided to buy it from him and was so excited when the fish and game department agreed and made it happen. Hell of a find, scored him at 176.

Pot is full of a giant aoudad a 1 great whitetail. Working today an will be leaving Sunday for New Mexico. Hopefully drop a cow elk. Good luck to all the hunters and be safe.

The picture on the left is my brother in 2001 and left is me today. In 2001 we lost my dad suddenly and my brother shot his best hill country deer that he never seen before but found sheds of him the year before. In June we lost my mom and almost the exact same thing happens to me, a deer I found sheds from last year and shoot my best Hill country deer today. Jason Samsel

This morning the good lord treated me with facing a deer we have let go the past 2-3 years. Named Criss Cross..Due to him not being legal. I seen him last week and knew he would make the 13in inside spread . Found his matching set of sheds last season and was excited to see if he’d make it. Well he did and he ended up scoring 142 7/8 at 6.5-7.5yrs old and weighed 180lbs .
