Hi friends and SEAS family!

We have had a LOT happen since the last time I posted in June! The biggest thing being I had some crazy changes in my personal and professional life and ended up relocating to Traverse City, Michigan!

FEAR NOT! All 30 animals were relocated with me and all now reside in Michigan! I am very proud to say we were able to move an entire truck from Colorado to michigan with everyone’s cages, tanks, and necessities!! We made the move rhe first week of july, and each animal handled the move quite well and has adjusted to life in Michigan beautifully. The great news is we are no longer based out of a condo and have a house with a massive yard and much more space for all of the critters!

I took a chance apursuing my lifelong passion working with young horses- which is what inspired the move to michigan! This allows me to spend virtually all of my time with animals, and the ultimate goal is to find a permenant home on acerage where I can expand my rescue efforts and give more animals a loving forever home!

I am in a temporary living situation as I search for this dream property and I am unable to take in new rescues during this time- however I will keep everyone posted on updates on our current residents and promise to be better with updates! I’ll also be sure to let everyone know as soon as I’m open for rescues again!

I did unfortunately lose the matriarch of my large colony- veyda- in early September. She lived a beautiful 12 years and I feel so lucky i was trusted to give home for her final year 💗 Polly also passed away a few weeks later, veyda was her buddy and polly had terminal cancer and joined her beautiful friend across the rainbow bridge. 🕊️

Thats the update! if you or someone you know is located in Michigan please reach out! I love meeting people in the exotic/animal community and would love to connect!

Another question for the community- I have found a fabulous exotic vet for my reptiles, but am still searching for a great vet for my small mammals. If you have any recommendations for vets in northern Michigan please reach out! I currently have an exotics vet in Grand Rapids.

Happy holidays to all from your Summit Exotic Animal Sanctuary Family! ❤️c

It’s was a BIG weekend for our three youngest gliders Prince, Pretzel and Poncho! They got neutered this past Friday!

Thanks to our friends at Orchard Veterinary Medical Center Inc!

They have recovered so well so far and we can’t wait for them to live out the rest of their little lives as happy as they could possibly be!

Why is it important to neuter sugar gliders?

Sugar gliders can reproduce quite frequently. In the wild, female sugar gliders can have two breeding seasons per year, typically giving birth to one to two joeys (baby sugar gliders) in each litter, although litters of three or four are possible. The gestation period is about 15 to 17 days, after which the tiny joeys continue to develop in the mother's pouch for about eight weeks.

Once the joeys are weaned—around 8 to 12 weeks of age—females can become pregnant again shortly after even with no contact to males, they have two vaginas and are able to store s***m in each leading to a rapid population increase if not managed.

Since the average time people have sugar gliders is 6 months to two years it’s essential to breed responsibly to ensure each glider has a safe home where they can get the proper care they need to thrive and won’t go through life going from rescue to rescue or constantly getting rehomed.

Throwback Thursday!

Look at how precious Dill Pickel was on the first day we took him home exactly one year ago!

Thank you SKYzthe1imit Exotics for such a precious baby! He’s absolutely thrived and gotten even more gorgeous as he’s matured! I’m currently building out an ikea cabinet to be his permanent big boi enclosure! 🪴💙

He’s quite spoiled- we love him and his big derpy personality! Can’t wait to have him for hopefully another 10+ years or more!

🦎✨🍌 A Fairytale Ending For A Special Dragon🍌✨🦎

Meet Banana! He is a male bearded dragon estimated to be between 1.5-3 years old. He was abandoned in a shoe box in the trash room of someone’s apartment and some lovely animal lovers found him and brought him to us!

We were able to get him checked out by a vet and cleared to be adopted, so we brought him to the All American Plant and Reptile Expo in castle rock this weekend to attempt to find him a forever home at our for-profit business’s booth PlantPop! (We sell houseplants and terrarium plants)

He has such a fantastic demeanor and was a hit at the show! He even found a forever home with an experienced Beardie keeper! He bonded with them instantly and completely relaxed while being held and scratched! He will be living the best life and get tons of time to free roam and play and get all of the love and attention a special little dragon could ever want!

We are so excited this was a quick ordeal for this little guy and we were able to get him into a loving forever home!

Really got lucky with this crew of seven getting along so well!

Left to right-
Lio
Yo-Yo
Kiwi
Teletubby
Oliver
Polly
Veyda

They all eat together like this every night and don’t fight- it’s pretty amazing!

This group quite eclectic, made up of all rescues that have had a variety of vastly different backgrounds.

Polly is blind due to neglect from her previouss home, despitete being only 3 years old. The other gliders take amazing care of her and always share treats and help lead her to food and the pouch. It’s pretty amazing to see this social dynamic.

Lio is definitely the dominant one, and he does a great job keeping the other 6 in line. Pretty amazing for a glider that lived alone for 8 years! 💙
