It's an Argiope aurantia who fulfilled her life's purpose and made many eggs, and filled her egg sacs, leaving them in as well protected places as she could devise. She defended them as long as she had strength, and with the last of her energy she left her web and crawled as far away as she could so scavengers would not find those precious eggs, and then she passed quietly. Her abdomen has either bleached or may have a fine coating of fungus on it. Her passing is sad, but she has won the battle against every enemy, and done her life's mission. She is one very special lady.
