Did you know dogs and cats can get bladder stones?

Check out these bladder stones Dr. Bailey removed from a doggie patient 🤯

This patient has had frequent bladder issues like not being able to empty her bladder fully and had frequent urination. She also has had a prior bladder surgery to remove multiple stone a few years back. Sometimes these can be a chronic issue in some dogs but, can be helped or prevented with a prescription diet.

Bladder stones are primarily caused by mineral imbalances in the urine, leading to crystals formation and hardening into stones. Imbalances can stem from various factors, including diet, urinary tract infections, dehydration, underlying health conditions and even genetics.

🚨Call us and schedule an appointment for testing if your dog or cat experiences any of these symptoms.
* Frequent urination
* Straining while urinating
* Has blood in their urine

🦠What is leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis is a bacteria infection that can cause illness, including liver and kidney failure.

💧It is commonly spread through contaminated water (like puddles and floodwater), stagnant pond water and urine from rodents such as 🐀, 🦝, and 🦌.

💧While cats can contract it, this is extremely rare. Dogs are the most vulnerable.

💧It is also zoonotic, meaning it can spread to humans 🤒 - particularly risky for children, the elderly, or anyone immunocompromised.

⚠️ Signs of Leptospirosis in dogs:
Symptoms can be vague but, may include:
*Fever
*Vomiting and diarrhea
*Lethargy
*Loss of appetite
*Jaundice (yellow of gum or eyes)
*Increased drinking and urination

If your dog is showing any of those signs please call us immediately!

✅ How to prevent it:
*Avoid letting pets drink from puddles, stagnant ponds, old standing water or flood water
*Ensure your dog is up to date with their leptospirosis vaccine
*Prevent dogs from consuming deceased rodents
* Wash paw after wet walks

📞 To book a leptospirosis vaccination or check your dog’s vaccine status, call us at (912) 832-2315

‼️NOTE: There is currently no leptospirosis vaccine available for cats
