Our 4th veterans' program with BaseCamp for Veterans Inc. is underway! The classes are so different every time, and you truly never know what to expect. Each time, however, it is magical.

We use the "wilds"(Mustangs).. For so many reasons.

The Veteran is learning to trust again, get along with others, get used to forgiveness, create a new environment, and deal with new normals. The pandemic brought new challenges to our Veterans who came out of the service and went straight into isolation. This created a new obstacle with veterans with combat experience trying to manage Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Veterans with PTSD were relieved of the pressure of everyday stressors such as driving on busy highways or being in crowded restaurants, grocery stores, or large crowd areas, and now they are having to be integrated back into a world they are still trying to figure out.

People with symptoms of PTSD may need to constantly remind themselves that they are safe and no one is there to hurt them or the people around them. Now that people wear masks and only their eyes are visible, identifying their intentions is more complicated. For someone with PTSD, not seeing someone's face tends to bring on anxiety, the same with the horses; they want to see your face, to learn to trust you. We are constantly asking them to face us to earn their trust.

Veterans are expected to adapt and overcome a world unfamiliar to them after their military service. There are many parallels with the wild mustangs, and it is an excellent start to peeling the layers.

These pictures tell so many stories.

Thank you to our amazing photographer Anouschka Rokebrand, who captures all these moments, that tell a bigger story.

LOOKING FOR VETERANS!! Hey guys, as you most know I help facilitate a Veterans Equine Therapy program in partnership with BaseCamp for Veterans Inc.

It is time for our next class. It will be held the week of January 9th -January 15th. You do NOT have to be an Arizona resident, you can be from where ever. (All cost are covered)

BCI's week-long program is open to veterans and their family members, and takes place at White Stallion Ranch and Dream Horse Ranch, in Tucson Arizona. Veteran participants will have the opportunity to work with mustangs (horses that have limited human contact) at Dream Horse. The mustang portion of our program is centered around ground-work, which involves limited physical contact and emphasizes non-verbal communication - a central component of the educational and therapeutic experience. True to our mission, in order to ensure family members are fully included in the program, while veteran participants are working at Dream Horse, our family participants will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the horsemanship experience, at White Stallion Ranch. Finally, all participants (veterans and their family members) will have the opportunity to participate in BCI tailored horsemanship clinics and lessons, and enjoy all of the additional services and activities the ranch offers its guests.

This is FREE to the Veteran and their family or support group.

So please if you are a veteran, or know of a veteran who would like to be a part of this amazing program, please submit an application. They are DUE by December 23rd

Loft: The Mustangs: America's Wild Horses

The Mustangs; America's Wild Horses is finally out, and you can watch it at home!

We have an amazing theater here in Tucson called the Loft Cinema.

They are selling "Watch at home" tickets. It's $12 for a 48 hour screening. Your rental of The Mustangs: America's Wild Horses helps support this local theater during this unprecedented time, when they are not open to the public.

Screenings are good for 48 hours from the time you start watching, with some exceptions that extend longer. You can access the film any time by logging into an account that you make.

https://theloftathome.org/main/the-mustangs

Takes audiences on an odyssey throughout America to places few people have seen or even know about. There are more than 80,000 wild horses on our federal lands and more than 50,000 in holding facilities.

Mrs. Pastures Cookies for Horses has always been very dear to our heart! They have been a very loyal sponsor of ours and for the last 5 years, there is NOT a horse in our barn that does not get these cookies. CONGRATULATIONS Alltech for having the vision to help keep these amazing Cookies the way they are, and making sure more horses get to enjoy them. We are so proud of this new adventure!

WE HAVE BIG NEWS! With much enthusiasm, we are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Pastures® Cookies for Horses has been acquired by global animal health and nutrition leader Alltech.

As you know, our horse cookies are widely considered “America’s #1 Horse Treat” and are sold by thousands of retailers nationwide. In fact, our cookies have been so well-received that our California manufacturing facility can no longer keep up with the ever-growing demand.

In becoming part of the Alltech family, we have found the ideal partner to advance our vision of providing more horse owners (and their horses!) with our high-quality, wholesome treats. By the beginning of 2022, Alltech plans to significantly increase manufacturing of the cookies through additional production facilities.

We are so enthusiastic about the future of Mrs. Pastures® and believe that she will finally have her true opportunity to shine, as we can now get more cookies into the hands of more horse owners and the mouths of more horses!

And the best news?! The original Mrs. Pastures® horse cookie recipe you know and love will remain exactly the same.

Alltech is committed to maintaining Mrs. Pastures’ reputation for exceptional products and customer service. We are so excited to see what the future holds!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. We would love to hear from you! https://www.mrspastures.com/contact

At least 12 families of Veterans across the United States will be receiving a Gold Star pin, after they get a knock on the door informing them that their loved one gave their life in Afghanistan yesterday.

12 Veteran families will have to plan funerals.
12 Veteran families will cry out in pain.
12 Veteran families will fall to their knees.
12 Veteran families' lives will forever change today.

To those families. We honor you. We love you. We will never forget the sacrifices your loved ones gave. And finally, we promise you, we will NEVER forget.

Prayers for all of the Service Members over in Afghanistan right now & sending extra to the ones that have served over there already, who may be struggling.

If you or anyone you know could use the services of BaseCamp for Veterans Inc., please reach out.

Do you respect your trainer?

Do you respect your trainer?

“If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?”
-John Wooden

We've been blessed to build a clientele who understands that the process of educating a great horse is a lot less costly than the high price of NOT doing it right the first time. But oddly enough, for all the knowledge and insight available to everyone these days, there are still so many who believe in 30-90 day magic when it comes to training horses.

Can you even count the times you've heard someone say something along the lines of “I can't afford more than 3 months of training, I only trail ride.” Then find out later that they ended up having a traumatic experience on their green horse who was unprepared to handle what life threw at him?

There's a lot of outcry about trainers pushing horses too hard and too fast in the pursuit of a desired outcome. While we're definitely not defending that approach, stop to think a moment about what may cause that.

Trainers are constantly put under a great deal of pressure by their clients to produce a result in a short amount of time. It doesn't matter what discipline you're in, someone always wants something done faster, cheaper. Yet nothing comes without a cost.
It's a tough subject to broach because there are obviously trainers out there who aren't doing their best, trainers who are filling the barn without delivering on their promises, and giving excuses instead of results. But when you find a good trainer, give them the space they need to put your horse first. Not every horse is going to progress at the same speed, and the trainers who put the horse first will end up letting a client go if they refuse to afford the time their horse needs. You may find a “better deal” elsewhere, but will most likely end up paying the balance at the expense of the physical or mental wellbeing of your horse.

Unfortunately, it gets exponentially more difficult and costly to do things over once damage has been done. So what kind of time can you truly afford?

What a "wild" ride!
Jeff & Princess Cactus Flower won the 2021 Oklahoma Extreme Mustang Makeover put on my The Mustang Heritage Foundation.

It was a fantastic event. Lots of hard work. Lots of laughs, a few tears, and so much fun.

Cactus Flower is an outstanding horse, it was a true pleasure to train and show her.

Thank you to the village that supports us.
