Like data and wonder how we're doing? Keep reading! CCAW has had many years of exponential growth since the completion of the building that houses both dogs and cats. Check out these statistics regarding our intake and adoption numbers:
As of July 21, we have accepted into our care 24 dogs and 61 cats. The lion's share of that was stray cats, at 43 total intakes under that category alone! We have also been able to accept 19 animals as transfers at times when our kennels were empty and our community needs were taken care of. Those transfer partners include Best Friends Salt Lake, Best Friends Kanab, Heartz for Paws, Brigham City Animal Shelter, and Salt Lake County Animal Services, and Bastrop County Animal Services in Texas.
How are our adoption numbers? We've had 19 cat and 12 dog adoptions in 2025. We've transferred 26 cats and 4 dogs out to our network partners named above, almost all of which were adopted within 2 weeks of their transfer out (only 4 hours in one case).
As you can see, there is a significant gap between intake and adoption! Our average length of stay is 48 days for a cat, and 96 days for a dog that lands at CCAW. The goal is less than 20 for a cat, and Jacksonville Humane Society has achieved 11 days for their dogs! This is the goal but it takes a village!
Our capacity is limited by budget but also space, as we have 3 dedicated cat rooms, 1 exam room that is often used as overflow, and 6 kennels for rescue dogs. Despite this, we have made it our mission to keep each kennel and cat condo full while still balancing the necessary care for each animal who calls CCAW its home. We often only have 1 or 2 staff on site during business hours, so these stats are proof of what a small but dedicated team can do!
Next time you find a stray, say thank you to the dedicated staff, board, and volunteers at CCAW, who are saving lives and often taking on more than you can ever know.
And please, please consider donating, as over 50% of the animals we accept come with no financial help. Regardless, we get them spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and feed them great quality food! Help us continue the good work and keep going strong long after 2025.
