🍽️ Start with a small portion of soft food if they keep water down
🦷 If teeth were extracted, follow your veterinarian’s instructions for a soft-food diet while the mouth heals

🛑 HOLIDAY HOURS:
Our hospital locations will be CLOSED tomorrow, Saturday, July 4th so our teams can celebrate with their families. We will resume normal business hours on Sunday, July 5th.

📋 THE ON-THE-GO SAFETY CHECKLIST:
If your pet is joining you at a parade, park, or public gathering tomorrow, keep these four strict rules in mind:

Check Microchips & Tags: If an accidental escape happens in a crowded public place, updated microchip contact info and a physical collar tag are your pet's only ticket home. Verify your details today.

Test Pavement Heat: Asphalt retains intense summer heat. If it's too hot, it will severely burn your pet's paw pads.

Use Secure Leashes: Sudden fireworks or loud crowds can startle any dog. Avoid retractable flexi-leashes, which can easily snap or get tangled. Use a standard, secure leash attached to a properly fitted collar or harness.

Pack Fresh Water & Find Shade: Do not rely on public water bowls, which can spread bacteria. Pack a portable bowl and fresh water to actively prevent heatstroke during outdoor festivities.

Data shows that only 8% of dogs are sick before grazing, and only 22% throw up afterward. Most of the time, your pup is just tapping into an ancient ancestral instinct, curing backyard boredom, or they just love the crunchy texture!

⚠️ The Line Between Normal vs. Danger:
Casual Nibbling: Completely normal behavior. Just make sure the lawn is chemical-free.
Frantic Gulping: If they are rapidly swallowing grass, pacing, or whining, this is a sign of severe gastrointestinal distress. Intervene immediately and get medical attention.

The Real Threat: The grass isn't the problem! The urban soil is. Microscopic parasite eggs (like roundworms and hookworms) from other animals cling to grass blades. If your dog loves a backyard salad, keeping their preventative care current is non-negotiable.
