☀️🐾 Hot Weather Reminder for Pet Owners 🐾☀️

As the temperatures rise, remember that asphalt can get dangerously hot for your dog’s paws. Even when the air temperature feels manageable, pavement can become hot enough to cause burns in minutes.

A good rule: if you can’t comfortably hold the back of your hand on the asphalt for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your pup to walk on.

Try to:

• Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
• Stick to shaded or grassy areas when possible
• Bring water on walks !!!
• Watch for signs of overheating or sore paws

Your dog relies on you to keep them safe this summer. Stay cool and protect those paws!

Pet-safe ice melt is a better choice for winter walkways—but it’s important to know it’s not completely risk-free.

✔️ Why pet-safe salt is better:
• Less harsh on paws
• Lower risk of chemical burns
• Reduced toxicity if licked in small amounts

⚠️ How it can still be dangerous:
• Dogs can lick residue off their paws, leading to stomach upset or salt toxicity
• Some products still cause paw irritation or dryness
• Ingesting large amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or excessive thirst
• Small pets are at higher risk due to their size

🐕 Safety tips for winter walks:
• Wipe paws after every walk
• Use dog booties or paw balm for extra protection
• Avoid heavily treated sidewalks when possible
• Store ice melt securely—pets may try to eat it

Pet-safe salt helps—but supervision and cleanup are still key. When in doubt, a quick paw wipe can prevent a big problem ❄️💙
