Attention Stephens County Residents: A bobcat in the area of Sonny Drive near Rock Quarry Circle recently tested positive for rabies in Toccoa, Georgia.
If you suspect that you or your animal(s) have been in contact with any rabid animal, or if you notice your pet displaying any symptoms of rabies, please immediately call the Stephens County Environmental Health Department at 706-282-4507.
Preventative Measures:
🟩 Maintaining current rabies vaccinations for your pets and keeping them away from wild animals is the best way to protect them.
🟩 To protect yourself and your family, do not attempt to capture or feed feral or stray cats. Leave them and other wild animals alone.
🟩 Always avoid contact with unfamiliar dogs, cats, and wild animals. This includes attempting to help an animal that appears injured.
🟩 If you feed your pets outside, pick up any uneaten food to avoid attracting wild animals to your property, including feral cats. Feral cats are born in the wild and should be regarded as, and treated as, wild animals.
