☀️🐾 Florida summers are no joke—and our pets feel the heat too!

As temperatures and humidity rise, it’s important to take extra precautions to keep your furry family members safe. Pets can overheat much faster than people, and heat-related illnesses can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes.

🌡️ Heat Safety Tips:
✅ Always provide access to fresh, cool water
✅ Limit outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours
✅ Avoid hot pavement—it can burn sensitive paw pads
✅ Never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes
✅ Make sure your pet has access to shade and air conditioning whenever possible

🚨 Signs of heat exhaustion include:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Bright red gums
• Difficulty breathing

If you notice any of these signs, move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian right away.

Remember, in Florida’s heat and humidity, even a short walk can be dangerous during the hottest parts of the day. Staying proactive can help ensure your pet enjoys a safe and happy summer!

🌟 Mabel stopped by for her annual exam and had an important health goal on her mind — weight management! 🐾💛

Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the best things you can do for your pet’s overall health and longevity. Extra pounds can increase the risk of arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and other medical conditions, while a healthy weight can help pets stay active, comfortable, and feeling their best.

If your pet could benefit from shedding a few pounds, we’re here to help! Weight loss is most successful when it’s done safely through a combination of proper nutrition, portion control, exercise, and regular monitoring. Every pet is different, so a personalized plan can make all the difference.

Mabel was all smiles during her visit, and we loved helping her take the next step toward a healthier future! 🦴✨

🐾 Kong came to see us for some skin issues, and while itchy skin might seem like a small problem, it can actually have many different causes — from allergies and parasites to infections and more. That’s why it’s so important to have persistent itching, licking, redness, or hair loss checked out by a veterinarian.

This handsome boy was so brave during his visit, and we’re happy to help get him feeling more comfortable again! 💙🐶

If your pet has been scratching more than usual, give us a call — healthy skin means a happier pet!

🐶💕 Tiny Penelope came in to see us for her very first round of puppy boosters, and we are officially obsessed with this sweet little face!

Puppy vaccines are an important part of protecting young dogs from serious illnesses while their immune systems are still developing. But vaccines are only one piece of the puzzle!

Regular dewormings are just as important during puppyhood because intestinal parasites are extremely common in puppies — even ones that look perfectly healthy. Parasites can affect growth, cause stomach upset, lead to poor nutrition, and in some cases can even be passed to people.

Keeping up with both vaccines and routine dewormings helps puppies like Penelope get the healthiest possible start in life. 🩷🐾

Welcome to the puppy club, Penelope! We can’t wait to watch you grow!

Sweet Oakley and little Samson stopped by to see us today! Oakley came in for some eye concerns while Samson provided moral support (and puppy cuteness, of course). 💙

Eye issues in pets should never be ignored. Redness, squinting, discharge, cloudiness, swelling, or keeping the eye closed can all be signs that something is wrong. Eye conditions can worsen very quickly and, in some cases, may lead to permanent vision damage if not treated promptly.

If you notice any changes in your pet’s eyes or vision, it’s important to have them examined as soon as possible. Early treatment can make all the difference in keeping your furry friend comfortable and protecting their eyesight. 🐶✨

Our hospital has recently seen an influx of kittens coming through our doors—and while they’re undeniably adorable, they often need extra care and attention to get off to a healthy start.

If you’ve found a kitten outside and are planning to keep them, here are a few important steps to take:

🍼 Estimate age & feeding needs
Very young kittens (under 4–5 weeks) require bottle feeding and round-the-clock care. Older kittens can transition to wet food.

🏥 Schedule a veterinary visit ASAP
A check-up helps determine age, overall health, and any urgent needs like deworming or treatment for fleas, parasites, or infections.

💉 Start vaccinations & preventive care
Kittens need a series of vaccines, along with flea/tick and heartworm prevention (yes—even indoor cats can be at risk!).

😺 Plan for spay/neuter
When the time is right, this helps prevent future litters and supports your kitten’s long-term health.

💛 Give them patience & love
Many outdoor kittens need time to adjust to indoor life. A calm, safe space goes a long way.

If you’re unsure what to do or need guidance, our team is always here to help. Together, we can give these little ones the best possible start. 🐾

It’s Veterinary Receptionist Week and we are thrilled to shoutout our rockstar receptionist, Kylie!

While most of you know Kylie as the friendly face who greets you and your pets in the lobby and the empathetic voice answering the phone, Kylie’s impact within our team extends far beyond your typical receptionist. Kylie brings 15 years of veterinary technician and receptionist experience to the table, and has experience in emergency care, surgery, equine, small animal, and everything in between. She is passionate about educating pet owners, which she does with unparalleled kindness and care for both the pets and their human companions.

Please join us in thanking Kylie for everything she does to support Singleton Avenue Animal Hospital and to ensure all the pets in our care receive the exceptional care they deserve.

Bella came in looking stylish for her visit—and yes, that bandana is absolutely stealing the show 🐾💙

She stopped by for her Rabies vaccine, which is not only essential for protecting her health, but also required by law. Rabies is a serious (and fatal) disease that can affect both pets and people, so keeping your pet up to date on this vaccine is one of the most important things you can do as a pet owner.

Bella handled her visit like a pro, and we think she deserves extra treats for both bravery and fashion sense! 🐶✨

Kane stopped by to see us, and just look at that sweet face! 🐾💙 This handsome puppy is not only adorable, but he’s also at the perfect age to start building a strong foundation for lifelong health.

One of the most important things we talk about during puppy visits is flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Even young puppies are at risk—especially here in Florida where parasites are active year-round. Fleas and ticks can cause skin irritation and transmit diseases, while heartworms (spread by mosquitoes) can lead to serious, even life-threatening heart and lung disease.

The good news? Prevention is simple, safe, and much more affordable than treating these conditions later on. Starting early helps keep puppies like Kane protected as they grow, explore, and enjoy life to the fullest. 🐶✨
