Travis is still looking for his special someone...potential adopters have loved him, but then he goes and marks in the lobby while meeting them. He apologizes for being such a dog and promises he IS housebroken, just maybe not in our lobby where he doesn't spend much time, smells too many other dogs and cats, and can tell many other dogs and puppies have piddled there. To dogs, it probably smells like a tree at the park, a perfectly fine place to mark! Travis has never gone in his kennel, always outside. Please don't let this one rude dude behavior turn you off, because this guy is one in a million.

WIN. A. BUCKY. TREE. 🌲
That's right, this is your chance to win a genuine "Bucky tree," handcrafted by local woodworking extraordinaire Bucky Green. Mr. Green has stopped selling at Dickens of a Christmas, but these coveted Tioga County treasures used to sell out early there every year!

Chances are $10 each or 5 for $40. All proceeds benefit local animals in need helped by Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries. The winner will be drawn on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the end of Dickens in downtown Wellsboro. Need not be present to win, but winner must be able to pick the tree up at the event or at the sanctuary the following week. Tree cannot be shipped. If contact can't be made with winner after a week, a new winner will be drawn.

🌟 3 WAYS TO GET CHANCES:
▪️Online using debit/credit card or PayPal through Dec. 5 at https://form.jotform.com/SCAS725/bucky-tree
▪️At the shelter any time we're open through Dec. 5 (cash/check only)
▪️At our Dickens booth in Wellsboro on Saturday, Dec. 6 (cash/check only)

💚 Thank you all for your continued support, to Mr. Green for his incredible creations and to our board member Joe for donating the tree. 💚

ADOPTED!

And then there was one...we honestly thought Human Torch would be the first of the Fantastic 7 litter to find a home, due to her chill and sweet nature and tons of extra toes beans! But she's still waiting for someone to save with love, laughter and purrs.

This little superhero is about 5.5 months old and is confident, loving, silly and has the softest butterscotch colored fur. She loves to play, chase bugs and explore, but is just as content to curl up in a cozy bed, on your lap or snuggling with another kitten friend. In fact, she adores other cats like her current roomies Hope, Faith and newbie Ernie, and would love another young one to play with at home. She's just fine with nice dogs and loves kids. Human Torch is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.

➡️ Apply to adopt your new best friend at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt or at the sanctuary any time we're open. Call 570-376-3646 or email [email protected] with any questions.
✔️ PA kennel license #04944

We've seen too many of these incredibly sad stories over the years. We implore you to leave pet food in its original bags (which also helps retain natural oils in the food), even if the bag must be put in another container. But, make sure those containers are locked up and always out of pets' reach! Child locks on doors or cabinets adds extra protection.

We had to share these precious photos of our Halloween costume contest winner picking up her treasures last week, and her little partner in crime (Glimfeather recently adopted from us) having fun with one of his prizes! Thanks again to all who entered!

Should we do another contest like this in the future?

DO NOT USE CRAFT STRAW FOR CAT SHELTERS! Most of the craft straws are crushed/shredded and therefore don’t have the insulating properties needed. Other craft straws are bleached, others have a tacking substance that makes it sticky. It is not optimum for the purpose needed.

Fall is upon us and it’s time to start thinking about the Feral Cats and their outdoor shelters. As has been reiterated many times, the shelters should be filled with straw, not hay. However, craft straw is not appropriate either! The type you buy at Michaels, Amazon and other craft stores does not provide the insulation that is needed. You need to buy bales of straw from feed stores or landscaping companies or nurseries. Straw is a natural insulator that has been used effectively for centuries to keep people and animals warm. It is hollow, acts as a natural insulator, is not edible, It doesn’t absorb water and is not prone to mold. It is a natural insulating material. Hay on the other hand, absorbs water, is digestible, does promote mold growth and does not keep animals warm! Do not use hay, and be WARNED that CRAFT straw is often ineffective and inappropriate for the use in cat shelters.
