Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries A 501c3 nonprofit in Tioga County, PA helping dogs and cats find loving new homes.

We've got your purebreds, your half-baked breds, and your funny-shaped-kinda-burnt-but-still-delicious breds! Get 'em while they're hot!

Please note:
- We do not DNA test dogs, so we do NOT guarantee the exact genetic makeup of any. We can only go by previous owner information, appearance, and in some cases, vet or expert opinion. This video is simply to show that every type of dog ends up at shelters/rescues.
- Some dogs pictured are not yet ready to go home or may have pending applications. You're still encouraged to apply if you're looking for a certain breed or size. In most cases, approved applications are good for 6 months.
- Teddy, the Dane, is no longer accepting applications. :)
- Peanut, the Northern Pennsylvania Fuzzy-Wuzzy Wolf, is a permanent resident and not available for adoption.

Miss Cricket is doing as well as she can right now and appreciates all your well wishes and prayers! She's not out of the woods yet, as that degree of injury and repair could still shock her body in a few days and cause her to crash. We're all cautiously optimistic. Thank you so much to the staff at Wellsboro Small Animal Hospital, P.C. for continuing her fantastic care. ❤️

To answer some questions, she was spayed Thursday at a vet who we trust immensely and have taken our dogs for years (not where she had emergency surgery yesterday). Per instructions, we only put cones on the dogs if they are bothering their incision. We have only had a few in the last 10 years at this facility who have popped sutures, but NEVER to this degree. We will be implementing new policies to avoid this in the future. For Cricket, everything went smoothly and over the next few days after her surgery, no one noticed anything out of the ordinary. On Monday afternoon, our canine manager noticed Cricket scratching a little, but again, nothing extreme. A moment later, Cricket yelped and that's when everything came out. We don't know what or how it happened beyond that. Again, THANK YOU to Misti and Diane for their quick action in rushing Cricket to the vet. She wouldn't have made it if this happened when no one was there.

This will be costly, but we'll spare no expense in getting Cricket exactly what she needs. If you are willing to help:
- Contribute directly to her bill at Wellsboro Small Animal Hospital by calling (570) 376-2800
- Donate through this Facebook post
- Donate on Paypal and put "Cricket" in the notes: https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/1631686
- Send or drop off cash/checks with "Cricket" in the memo: Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries, 725 Gee Rd, Tioga, PA 16920

🩷 Thank you for your continued support and love for Cricket. 🩷

UPDATE: Cricket made it through surgery, but did major damage to her intestines losing several inches of them. She will stay at the vet for monitoring and further care. They say it's up to her to heal now. ❤️

Please send good thoughts to our sweet Cricket, who was just rushed to emergency surgery at Wellsboro Small Animal Hospital, P.C. She somehow popped her spay stitches and we will spare the details, but everything fell out. It was not good. This will no doubt be costly, but we will do everything we can for her. THANK YOU to our canine manager Misti and volunteer Diane for being there for her, braving that horrific scene and rushing her to the vet. Thank you to WSAH for taking her ASAP and Dr. Carlin for operating. We will update when we know more. Hang in there, Cricket!!! We love you!

UPDATE: Teddy is no longer accepting applications. :)

Meet Teddy, an 18-month-old Great Dane who is as big, goofy and handsome as he looks. Do you like personal space? Don’t tell that to 130-pound Teddy! He's your typical velcro dog - always following you around, not realizing that he’s too big to sit in your lap, and providing full body cuddles. And that huge body is an unusual color for Danes called lilac, which is actually a dilute chocolate hue. Teddy is currently in a foster home, and is now looking for a place to call his own.

Like most Danes, Teddy may only have a few brain cells rattling around in his head, but he seems eager to learn and please. His foster mom has been working on his leash training with a gentle leader head halter, reinforcing house training, and is working on teaching Teddy to sit, stay, and come. He's mostly been fine being left alone at home uncrated, though he does occasionally find something tempting to shred. He gets along with cats and most dogs, and is friendly with every person he's met. Due to his size and his complete lack of awareness of it, young kids who could be easily knocked over wouldn't be a good fit. Teddy is overall very laid back for such a young guy, but will require someone who is experienced at handling large and strong dogs. If anything about Teddy interests you, then only one question remains...how big is your couch?

PLEASE READ: Teddy is in a foster home and is NOT currently at the shelter. If you'd like to meet him, please call us at 570-376-3646 to schedule it.

If you're as sick of seeing this photo as we are, apply to adopt the new love of your life! Rescue animals won't cheat, they won't lie, they won't get caught canoodling their secret person on camera, they won't go to a concert without you, and they won't embarrass you in public...wait, they might do that last one. We never said they were perfect!

➡️ Apply to adopt your new best friend at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt or at the sanctuary any time we're open. Most of our residents are listed online, but some are not yet, but you can still visit them! Call 570-376-3646 or email [email protected] with any questions.

UPDATE: Owner found!!!

This fella was picked up by state police and jailed with us! Found running on Route 15 between the Liberty and Sebring exits heading toward Williamsport. Has a thick blue collar, but no tags or microchip. If you know him, call us at 570-376-3646 and leave a message if after hours. We open at noon on Saturday.
(He's clearing thinking about what he's done and regretting his life choices in these pics!)
