DOG TRAINING COURSES! 🐕
We're so excited that Sara Hamburger, certified trainer with Violets Canine Behavior and Training, is again offering dog training courses at the shelter.

There will be two courses, both over two days. You and your dog attend both evenings for $60, and Sara is generously donating a portion of the proceeds to us!

The first course is Monday, June 15, and Thursday, June 18, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at our large dog park at 725 Gee Rd., Tioga, PA. The second course dates will be announced soon.

The course focuses on basic commands such as sit, stay, recall, down and leash walking. Specific behaviors can be discussed if time permits. Dogs must be at least 3 months old to attend.

For questions or to register, please contact Sara at [email protected]. Thank you, Sara, for offering this popular course once again!

This is the Hansi we all know and love, and we hope someone out there takes the time to see this side of him, too. When he knows you and feels safe, Hansi is a big old lump of love who wants to play, go for walks, eat all the treats, snuggle and get all the belly rubs. When he's meeting you for the first time, he may cower and let out a low grumble to let you know he's unsure. Sitting down at his level, offering treats and letting him come to you does the trick. He's just a scared baby who needs that extra reassurance. We just know his best friend is out there!

Snug as bugs in rugs! Three remain of our bug litter - Cattie Pillar (short hair female), Snugglebug (long hair female, lighter around face), and Incognito Mosquito (long hair female, darker around face). They're ready to fly, buzz and crawl their way out of here and into your hearts! They're just over 12 weeks now and just as sweet and snuggly as ever. We can't believe these gorgeous, good-natured girlies haven't been scooped up, but they're content playing and making the cutest cuddle puddles here until the time comes.

🧡 PUMPKIN 🧡
Third time's a charm? Pumpkin recently went to what we hoped would be a foster-to-adopt home, but she schooled us on some things, again. This little goblin is as cute as a button, but as complex as a nine-piece Italian suit. Here are her demands:

- Single adult-only home. Have a roommate? Kick them out. Have a spouse? Divorce them.

- No kids, not even visiting frequently. Pumpkin wants to be the only tiny adorable thing getting all the attention in the home. Period.

- Not a lot of company. Have friends? Too bad, they can't come over. Family? Not invited. Romancing a date? Take them to Taco Bell.

- Her person should be home...a lot. Think lockdown 2020. Work remotely? That's fine. Retired? Even better, because all your time and attention now belong to a tiny sentient sausage.

- No other dogs (probably). Mostly because Pumpkin does not share toys. What's hers is hers and what's another dog's is also hers.

- Cats are cool. Pumpkin relates to their anti-social, people-are-only-good-for-a-few-things attitude. She aspires to be as confident as they are.

- Patience. Pumpkin has been through a lot. She was likely dumped, spent a few days very scared and running on her own before she was trapped around Thanksgiving. We don't know what her life was like before that, but Pumpkin acted like she had never been loved. She didn't how to be a dog. And now, she's on her third time at the shelter after a failed adoption and a foster return. Forming a bond with Pumpkin is like growing a pumpkin - it takes time, patience, trial and error to understand what she needs to thrive, and being ok if the outcome isn't 100% perfect.

- Love. You'll need to bottle this while Pumpkin acclimates so you'll have a nice reserve ready when she is! When she knows she's safe, Pumpkin is SO sweet. When she bonds to you, she'll be your loving BFF, your trusted confidant and your furry shadow. Who needs significant others or friends when you have the love of bite-sized burnt chicken nugget?

THE BASICS: Pumpkin is a 2ish-year-old dachshund mix. She's spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Can be adopted or foster-to-adopt. She is a scardey dog who won't warm up right away, and needs to get into a home setting to do so. She's a good girl at her core who just needs the right person who gets her. If she has that, she may blossom into a real dog. Only time and commitment will tell.

ADOPTION UPDATE! 🖤
Who remembers this formerly cherry-eyed sweetie pie? Now Tyson, he was named Skully when he was just a little puppy with us in November. He was adopted by one of our favorite volunteer families, had surgery to correct his eye, AND got to match his dad's tux for prom recently! Isn't he so handsome? He's been back to the shelter to visit a few times, and he's just the sweetest, most well-behaved little man. Seeing animals once in our care thrive and be included in the family like this is what's it's all about!
