🧡 PUMPKIN 🧡
Third time's a charm? Pumpkin recently went to what we hoped would be a foster-to-adopt home, but she schooled us on some things, again. This little goblin is as cute as a button, but as complex as a nine-piece Italian suit. Here are her demands:
- Single adult-only home. Have a roommate? Kick them out. Have a spouse? Divorce them.
- No kids, not even visiting frequently. Pumpkin wants to be the only tiny adorable thing getting all the attention in the home. Period.
- Not a lot of company. Have friends? Too bad, they can't come over. Family? Not invited. Romancing a date? Take them to Taco Bell.
- Her person should be home...a lot. Think lockdown 2020. Work remotely? That's fine. Retired? Even better, because all your time and attention now belong to a tiny sentient sausage.
- No other dogs (probably). Mostly because Pumpkin does not share toys. What's hers is hers and what's another dog's is also hers.
- Cats are cool. Pumpkin relates to their anti-social, people-are-only-good-for-a-few-things attitude. She aspires to be as confident as they are.
- Patience. Pumpkin has been through a lot. She was likely dumped, spent a few days very scared and running on her own before she was trapped around Thanksgiving. We don't know what her life was like before that, but Pumpkin acted like she had never been loved. She didn't how to be a dog. And now, she's on her third time at the shelter after a failed adoption and a foster return. Forming a bond with Pumpkin is like growing a pumpkin - it takes time, patience, trial and error to understand what she needs to thrive, and being ok if the outcome isn't 100% perfect.
- Love. You'll need to bottle this while Pumpkin acclimates so you'll have a nice reserve ready when she is! When she knows she's safe, Pumpkin is SO sweet. When she bonds to you, she'll be your loving BFF, your trusted confidant and your furry shadow. Who needs significant others or friends when you have the love of bite-sized burnt chicken nugget?
THE BASICS: Pumpkin is a 2ish-year-old dachshund mix. She's spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Can be adopted or foster-to-adopt. She is a scardey dog who won't warm up right away, and needs to get into a home setting to do so. She's a good girl at her core who just needs the right person who gets her. If she has that, she may blossom into a real dog. Only time and commitment will tell.
