🐢Did you know enrichment is also important for reptiles? 🦎

Our Jolly Hay Balls are one of Gammy's favorite ways to keep active when he eats his hay, and it makes him have to use his brain to get his food. In the wild tortoises have to forage for food, so giving our pet tortoises an outlet for that mental stimulation is important!

Using different textures of climbs, bark, cork, and hides is great tactile enrichment, and actually encourages movement and activity!

Leaf Litter is another favorite for reptiles. Some reptiles will burrow into it for a more natural feeling environment. If you have an active cricket eater, this will help keep your reptiles on the hunt, but remember not to leave an excess of live food in your pets habitats! Crickets can bite at the mouth, skin, and eyes of reptiles, so we don't want crickets living in their habitats when they're not actively eating. 🦗

We are in constant awe of our friend, Toast the Narcoleptic Doodle, and his family for the work they do advocating for special needs pets. The Dodo featured Toast to share that despite his physical limitations, Toast lives an incredible, happy, and fulfilled life. Thank you to Toast's family for letting us be a part of Toast's world.

Introducing McCartney! Along with his brother, Lennon, McCartney arrived at Cache Creek Rescue at our Frankfort location on November 12, 2024. This adorable Lab/Heeler mix was born on September 4, 2024. He is neutered, microchipped, and all set to find his forever home. McCartney is intelligent and eager to learn, quickly picking up skills through positive reinforcement training, especially when there's a tasty treat involved. He has a sweet and playful personality, full of curiosity, making him an all-around great companion. McCartney prefers to be the only dog, enjoying all the attention you can give him. Could McCartney be the perfect addition to your family? Come by this Saturday or Sunday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM to meet your new furry best friend!

We are so excited for Betta Fish Take Home Pet Workshop on Sunday, February 23rd at 12:00PM! Join us to learn about Betta Fish, their environments, their care, and learn how to set up your own Betta Fish tank that is included in our workshop fee of only $40. This workshop includes our educational workshop, a 5.5 gallon fish tank with lighting and filtration, gravel, décor, and your own Betta Fish to take home as your newest family member. This event is being hosted at both our Frankfort location and our St. John location.

Hey Barketpals. This post is a little bittersweet. This is our last post as The Barketplace Tinley Park. Tomorrow when you see us you'll see us posted as Alsip Home & Nursery Pets. One last time I want to thank you all for your constant support, love, and friendships. The 3 years I was able to spend at The Barketplace was a dream come true, and every single one of you made that a reality.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey. Thank you for following me to my new home at Alsip Home & Nursery in Frankfort. I'm truly excited to bring you more nutritious food for your pets, enrichment and engaging toys and ideas, introduce you to new animals and staff members, and so much more. This new chapter is opening a world of possibilities.
