Today, the Village of Tilton Police Department sadly learned of the tragic passing of former Chief Steven Cornett.

Chief Cornett dedicated more than three decades of service to the citizens and community of Tilton, serving from 1984 until his retirement in 2017. During his distinguished career, he served in many roles within the department, rising through the ranks from Patrolman to Lieutenant, Captain, and ultimately Chief of Police, serving as Chief from 2010 through 2017.

Chief Cornett devoted his life to protecting others and serving this community with pride, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. He was highly respected by his coworkers, fellow officers, and the citizens he served throughout his career. His leadership, knowledge, and commitment to the Village of Tilton left a lasting impact on this department and community that will never be forgotten.

His guidance, leadership, and dedication to this profession helped shape not only officers within this department, but the department itself. Today, we remember not only a former Chief, but also a respected officer, mentor, coworker, and friend.

Today, our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to a very special member of the Paw-A-Day family.

Jake crossed the rainbow bridge last night after over a decade of being part of our lives. Since January of 2016, he walked through our doors more than 1,600 times for daycare, along with many boarding stays in between. To some, those are just numbers, but to us, they represent years of tail wags, happy greetings, familiar routines, and countless memories.

Jake was woven into the fabric of our days here. He wasn’t just a daycare dog. He was family.

We will miss seeing his face, watching him play with his bestie Max, and swoon over his love, Olive. But we will also deeply miss the conversations, laughs, and friendship we shared over the years with Jay and Lisa. The relationships built through dogs like Jake are what make this job so meaningful.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of Jake’s life for so many years. It was truly an honor to love and care for him.

Run free, sweet Jake. 🌈🐾
