Semi-feral youngster Hawthorne is experimenting with being a lap cat. Also considering taking up biscuit making. He is my baby, but he still loses it if Dan walks into the cat room.

Happy Cat Night! Cat Nights begin on August 17. This term harks back to the days when people believed in witches. A rather obscure old Irish legend said that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time (August 17), she couldn’t regain her human form. This bit of folklore also gives us the saying, “A cat has nine lives.” Because August is a yowly time for cats, this may have prompted the speculation about witches on the prowl in the first place. Also, nights continue to get longer. Cats, crepuscular creatures, are nocturnal hunters. Their superior night vision means that the nights belong to them.

Tie dye Tuesday!

Rauno shows off his modeling chops on Room 1's favorite resting place.

Rauno has lived at the shelter since he was a feral frightened kitten. He has blossomed into a wonderful cat. He combines boy-next-door good looks with a loving and slightly mischievous personality. He is popular with all the young female cats, and has several bros as well, so would love a home with at least one more cat.

Rauno considers himself to be quite the athlete, but he's also a bit of a goof, so he's most famous for making spectacular, dazzling leaps, then failing to "stick" the landing.
