Oh my gosh, GUYS!!!! I’ve missed you. I know I’ve been MIA, I’m sorry. 🫠 Sometimes I just get burnt out and find myself staying off Social Media for a while to replenish and focus on family. BUT… I know you have been eagerly watching and waiting to see what we’re up to and what’s next!

I admire the breeders who post reels everyday. I did it once… for several months! It was so fun. And exhausting. Not just the content and creation but managing the comments section can affect my mental health after a while, too.

Anyway, here I am. So many breeders are having ChatGPT write all of their posts these days, has anyone else noticed!? Don’t get me wrong, ChatGPT can be so helpful in organizing my thoughts or assisting in writing things up. And I won’t deny I have and will continue to use it every now and then! But I promise that the majority of my text will remain ME in human form, errors and all. 🫶

Alright, so let’s get to it. What’s the ā€œNowā€? I have six Border Collie puppies (all reserved) that start going home next weekend! It’s been a total blast having them around and checking back into my roots of what started it all for me… the purebred Border Collie. We’re keeping back two for our program (guardians found) and the other four found fantastic families! We used our Mama, Orca and an outside stud we were sooooo lucky to use! He is one heck of a dog and I feel absolutely honored to have gotten to pair our beloved Orca with him.

Bordoodles:
Up next! Lyric was paired with Oakley and she is due May 6th! I believe that waitlist is full (depending how many she has) but feel free to inquire just in case someone’s plans change.

We’re pairing Mistletoe with Glacier for a STUNNING litter of super nice coats due the first week of July. This will be Glacier’s first litter and Missy’s second. They’re going to be breathtaking! There are a few open spots on that waitlist! Inquire if interested.

Papipoos:
Juniper x Mischief are due June 5th with our third litter of Papipoos. I cannot get enough of these incredible small dogs, truly! I believe that waitlist is full but feel free to inquire in case someone’s plans change.

I’m also happy to report we attended the annual OFA CEAR clinic and ALL OF OUR DOGS PASSED!!! I am so happy, relieved and proud. 🐾

I’m excited to get back to sharing more regularly with you all!

Long post alert: Vaccination vs. Socialization

We’ve had a run of questions from folks whose puppies were not socialized outside the home until after the close of the critical socialization period. These owners were told—or believed—that puppies must complete their full vaccination series before beginning outings or classes. Unfortunately, many are now seeking help because their puppies are fearful in public.

These breeders and owners made a risk–benefit decision, believing the risk of disease outweighed the benefit of early socialization. I am not here to argue that choice. Every situation is different, and we strongly encourage people to assess their own circumstances and decide accordingly.

However, it’s critical to understand that withholding early socialization carries a significant and very predictable risk—fear of novelty. There is no workaround for this. You don’t get a pass on socialization because you followed other Puppy Culture protocols. Early, thoughtful, exposure to the outside world is a cornerstone of the program, and we devote an entire chapter to this issue - Vaccination vs. Socialization (link in comments)

The reason early socialization is so powerful is that young puppies are wired to imprint experiences with as little as one exposure. You’re getting in there before they have a high level of fear of the novel and getting a huge bang for your buck in terms of imprinting positive experiences. Literally, you can accomplish in 15 minutes what might take months to accomplish with an adult dog.

It’s also far easier and less technical to work with young puppies. You don’t need deep knowledge of learning theory. Pairing novelty with food and attention is usually enough. Most breeders can do this well.

But you are into a whole different space when you have a 12-16 week old puppy. You are no longer socializing a neurologically flexible baby— now you are counterconditioning and desensitizing a strong fear response in a tweenager. Just pairing food and attention with strangers is no longer going to do it. You now need to understand learning theory and how to apply it, which is beyond the scope of most pet owners. So, you’ll probably need the help of a qualified trainer.

Again, I am not quarreling with anyone’s decisions, but this is the exact reason we made Puppy Culture. There is no substitute for early socialization and unfortunately most people are just in over their heads with trying to counter condition an animal that missed this socialization window. That’s what I saw in my practice as a dog trainer and that’s what we sought to avoid by making the film.

Will doing the rest of the protocols in Puppy Culture help if you don’t do early socialization? Sure. You at least will have a puppy with foundation behaviors and has a sense of trust. But there is no substitute for early socialization.

I will wade a little further into this and say that our official line in Puppy Culture (that Drs. Herron and Leal discuss), based on the UC Davis study, is a ā€œdo no harmā€ start point. What we show in the film is the most we officially feel comfortable recommending.

But, even though we cannot recommend it in general, we ourselves have adopted even earlier off premises socialization based on the circumstances of our lines and the relative safety of where we live. This is a deep topic and I did a podcast on this, link in comments

We cover the relative risks and benefits early socialization in Puppy Culture. We go into vaccine technology, interview two prominent veterinarians and review the (still) current studies on the risk vs the benefit of early socialization. It’s a big chapter with lots of information so I’m not going to rehash it all here. If you need a refresher please revisit Vaccination vs. Socialization in Puppy Culture. (Link in comments)

Ultimately, the risk–benefit analysis is yours to make. Just understand that waiting carries its own risk—and it’s a very predictable one.

If you now have a puppy past the critical socialization window who is fearful of novelty, I strongly recommend seeking experienced help. One excellent resource is the ā€œPractical Dog Lifeā€ Facebook Group. It’s well‑moderated with highly competent trainers.

I will remove comments that criticize people for their individual decisions. It’s a risk benefit analysis that takes a lot of factors into account, and you don’t know the circumstances others are navigating. While the overwhelming evidence shows early socialization can be done safely with appropriate biosafety precautions, that does not mean it is the right choice in every case.

🪻Guardian Home Opportunity
Lilac Border Collie Female 🌿
(Oregon & Washington families)

We are looking for a very special guardian home for this breathtaking lilac Border Collie girl šŸ¤

She will be ready to join her guardian family the second week of March and is truly something special - a beautiful blend of athleticism, intelligence, and a calm, connected temperament.

Her official name is Hazey Skies ā˜ļø 🌈

āø»

✨ What is a Guardian Home?
A guardian home is a unique opportunity to have one of our top-quality dogs as your forever family companion, while we retain breeding rights for our program.

That means…
āœ”ļø You get an exceptional, fully health-tested dog already paid for
āœ”ļø She lives full-time with you as your companion
āœ”ļø We cover all breeding-related expenses
āœ”ļø You are part of something bigger, helping us preserve the beauty, health, and temperament of this breed and hybrid

She will ultimately be retired and fully yours, spayed, to live out her life as your beloved companion šŸ¤

āø»

✨ About Her
• Rare and stunning lilac coloring
• Expected to be highly intelligent and trainable
• Bred for balanced temperament - capable, but able to settle
• Will thrive in an active home that values connection, training, and adventure

āø»

✨ Guardian Home Requirements
We are looking for a home that:
• Lives within reasonable driving distance of Tillamook, OR
• Is committed to excellent care, nutrition, and training
• Keeps her as an indoor family member (not an outdoor dog)
• Is willing to communicate and partner closely with us
• Can bring her to us for health testing and breeding periods when needed
• Is not planning to relocate out of the area

Previous dog experience is a huge plus — especially with herding breeds.

āø»

This is an incredible opportunity for the right home to have a truly special Border Collie while being part of a purposeful, ethical breeding program.

If you feel like this could be the perfect fit for your family, we would love to talk with you šŸ¤

🐾 2026 Planned Pairings 🐾

We intentionally plan our pairings with a focus on temperament, structure, and long-term success in the home, and we are excited to share the pairings we are considering for the upcoming year.

Each photo in this album represents a potential litter, along with details on size, timing, and expected traits.

We move forward with select litters based on family interest and readiness, allowing us to thoughtfully plan each pairing and ensure every puppy is welcomed into a home that is eagerly anticipating them.

If a particular pairing stands out to you, we invite you to comment directly on that photo to be added to the interest list for that litter.

**Note:
These are not confirmed pairings. They are potential options for us with dogs that compliment one another in all ways. Pairings will only officially be bred with a confirmed waitlist of 4 or more families.

There is no commitment required at this stage. Your interest simply helps guide which litters we move forward with.

Families with an active deposit will be given priority when we begin confirming litters.

We are looking forward to another year of purposefully planned litters and intentional placements. šŸ¤

✨ An Update from Oregon Bordoodles

Over the last 15 years, our program has grown in the most beautiful way: with incredible families, thoughtfully planned litters, and puppies placed with intention and care.

As we continue to grow, we are making a meaningful shift in how we approach our Bordoodle breedings moving forward.

Our goal has always been the same:
to raise exceptional puppies and match them with families who are truly prepared, excited, and ready to welcome them home.

To better align with that goal, we will be transitioning to a more intentional breeding model.

Beginning in 2026, we will be planning our Bordoodle litters based on confirmed family interest, rather than producing litters in advance.
This means that each breeding will move forward once we have a core group of committed families for that specific pairing.

This allows us to:
• Be thoughtful in our pairings
• Ensure strong, eager homes for each puppy
• Continue focusing on temperament-based matching
• Provide the best possible start for every puppy we raise

As always, no family is ever obligated to move forward if a puppy is not the right fit, our matching process remains a priority.

While we truly enjoy raising our puppies beyond 8 weeks, our goal has always been for each puppy to transition into their home at the appropriate time, where their individual journey can continue with their family.

Over the next few days, we will be sharing a look at the pairings we are considering for the year ahead. This will give families the opportunity to follow along, learn more about each pairing, and express interest in specific litters. Our goal is to move forward with the pairings that families are most excited about, allowing us to plan each litter with intention and care.

🐾 Immediate Upcoming Plans 🐾

We have some exciting things ahead this year:

🐾 Purebred Border Collie Litter
Due the first week of March
**Four Waitlist families**
•We will accept TWO more deposits. If she has more than 6, we will open the waitlist again.

🐾 Papipoo (Papillon x Poodle) Litter
Due May 2026
**Five Waitlist Families**
•We will accept ONE more deposit at this time. We will open the list after the Litter is born if there are open spots. ļæ¼

We are incredibly proud of the program we have built: one rooted in health, temperament, and purpose-driven breeding and we remain deeply committed to continuing that work with intention and care.

Thank you to the families who trust us, support us, and are part of this journey with us. šŸ¤

Are you interested in having the opportunity to get on a 2026 Litter list? Feel free to reach out so I can share more detailed information about our potential pairings. ļæ¼
