🚨 NEW WORLD SCREWWORM ALERT

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has confirmed a case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Zavala County, Texas. The case was identified in a three-week-old calf with an umbilical lesion, highlighting the importance of closely monitoring newborn calves and any wounds on livestock.

We encourage all producers to inspect their animals regularly, paying special attention to:

✔️ Umbilical areas on newborn calves
✔️ Open wounds, cuts, and lesions
✔️ Branding, dehorning, castration, and surgical sites
✔️ Any area showing drainage, swelling, or signs of infection

Early detection is critical. If you notice suspicious wounds or maggots in a lesion, contact your veterinarian immediately.
