We had a camper this past weekend. She has been indogs for a long time and she is owned by Springer Spanuals. She also knows Jean Hilbig. She had two dogs. a male ana female. Both were very good trackers. She learned a lot. WE did woods, areas that had moss, mowed grass. Her male needs a couple more tracks and he will be ready for TDX and with a bit work on hard surfaces, Vst is in his future. She asked lots of questions, which is always helpful. She has a TD on both dogs. I watched dog work and picked up flags. I managed that job very well. For an Old Man I thought I did qite well. We had great weather. When the sun came out, it was beautiful. When the clouds moved in and with the wind blowing it was very cool. So each day was a combination of great weather and cool weather. None of this bothered the dogs. You could see the work and track very well. It was a very good weekend and Susan Has lots of pictures to edit and theen sent them off to the student. We had a wonderful time.

Tomorrow begins the countdown to the replacement of my pacemaker.
Today was bloodwork at the hospital, covid test and then a call from the nurse about more of what I am alergic to and a few other things. I told her that I will have a catheter in me and that I wondered of they woiuld or might take it out, she said no. With my over active bladder and their not bringing me a urinal fast enough, I thought I might p*e the bed more than once and I didn't want to lay in my own urine. Now that will be no problem. I also have to remove my ni**le rings, they are nylon, but the Dr. wants them removed. No big deal.
I am sure they will make me lie in recovery for at least 3 hours, it will take two hours to get me ready. Susan will be a totally whipped puppy tomorrow night, so don't call her, I will be ok.
Tomorrow I have to shower after 8 PM and then again before I leave Wednesday morning. That is because I need to use this special soap that is supposed to reduce infection by cleaning the skin.
Then tomorrow I have to call to find out what time I have to be there for this whole procedure begins. So we won't know what time we have to leave the lake. Takes almost an hour to get there.
Once I am in recovery, I will post that I am fine. Susan will drive me home.
Then the recovery process will begin. I hope it is not as long and as involved as the first one. Everyone says it is not bad at all. They said that about the first one, that was awful.
So Wednesday I won't be here to post images, many of which I wish I had made, but there are many others who make great images.
So be well friends, God Bless and keep you and let his face shine upon you. Be of good cheer.

Surprise, we got Indian Pipes. I had thought they were a fungi, but my friend James B. Eblin told us they are a flower. Very unique. Susan found about 5 clumps of them. I saw 3 clumps of them and made some Images of them. Not great images, but you can see them. Susan made some with her camera which are much better. Susan will post her images later I believe.

At Lab Land and the fire is still burning . I was able to rekindle the fire with what hadn't burned up. Just a small fire today.

08/15/2021

Today After lots of rain and such, the fire pit dried out enough to start a fire. It didn't take long to get a fire going. I had a huge fire. Some of the brush from the tree top that came down on the path, lots of other stuff all went up in flames. I had a great fire. I even had a number of logs that I put on the fire, would have been great to roast marshmellows over and eat them. No sticks for marshmellows and no marshmellows.

We had a light wind from the South, so it seemed, the wind kept moving around. It was hard to tell which way the wind was blowing at times. The smoke was traveling North most of the time, but now and then, no matter which side of the fire I was on, smoke got in your eyes.

Got most of the stuff burned, still lots of brush to get picked up, the trail is open to walk on and Holly walks it every day.Now the trail is ok, could be cleaned up more and that is the job for the future.

The chainsaw runs great. Takes a while to warm up and it cuts the trees very nice.

Now all I have to do is mow and mow. I got a ton of mowing to do. So it looks like I will be mowing a lot.

A couple of years ago I lost my "back sighting compass" I searched high and low, no compass. I bought another one, they are expensive, but I said I would find my compass one of these days. I also used it now and then at Lab Land when I plotted atrack.

Well today I found it. Susan had her tracking briefcase, a soft one, and I took it outside to blow off all the dog and cat hair. I went through it to see what she had. It was a big help. In one pocket was the compass. Also a timer/ clock and other assorted stuff a tracking judge would carry. Bland maps for a test, certification slips, and lots of odds and ends.

I knew I would find the compass. I did go buy another one, they are over $60. Thank God for free shipping, well we know it is not free, but in the end we all pay some for it.

I had thought that I may have loaned it to someone and they didn't give it back. Turns out it was always "All in the Family" the whole time. Susan said she had looked there a couple of years ago, but didn't find it. Also she has a great whistle. I blew it, wow, you can hear it a very long way away. I rarely use a whistle anymore. I got two of them that are very special to me.

I also got some mowing done at Lab Land. The rain sure makes the ferns grow like weeds. They were "taking over" the trails at Lab Land.

The Game Cam is set up at Lab Land. We got deer, a couple of fawns, 4 crows that are always there, a Coopers Hawk, and the ususal creatures you get in the woods. No bears yet.

I got gas today, so now I can mow more at Lab Land. I was out of fuel and so a trip to the gas station to get Rec Fuel. Rec Fuel is gas without ethanol and is 90 octane and you don't have to worry about not running your engines and the fuel pulling the mnoisture out of the air and making your motors hard to start and messing up yout carburators. So now I can mow away. There is a lot to mow.

So that is the report from Lab Land and slowley I am getting the place looking better. Lots of Black-eyed Susans growing and will be spreading their seeds.

Have fun y'all, enjoy your dogs, they are not with us long enough. God Bless y'all and be of good cheer.

Well we have had two campers as we like to call them come for tracking. One was totally new to the sport, the other person has tracked and entered a dog in tests and has a new dog. Our fellow camper had a Basdsett Hound named Shirlock and the other camper had an American Fox Hound named Penny.

Shirlock is an awesome dog. He has more s***k and learned quickley what to do and what not to do. His handler was very good also. For a new person, he handled the lead quite well.

Our Fox Hound had her owner's number. She worked when she wanted to for a day or so, then her handler got onto her lazyness and made her work and then she decided that Mom was all business and wouldn't let her get away with her so so attitude. Once that problem was solved the Fox Hound became a very good tracker. Needs a lot more work, but the dog progressed well in 4 days of work. After Mom decided that she wasn't going to put up with the so so attitude, the dog worked quite well.
They were a fun two people to work with. They asked lots of good questions, I think they learned a lot, their dogs progressed by leaps and bounds from when they started. Both dogs had done some scent work stuff, I don't remember if they have any titles yet, but they were great at finding the scent.

Dave was amazed at what Shirlock could do. This couple came all the way from FL and had a travel trailer, they stayed at Kamvilla down the road from Lab Land. When they left today, they brought their travel trailer, plugged it in to our electric box to run the fans and fridg in the trailer to make sure it was cool. They didn't use the AC.

Both Lynn and Dave were fun to work with. Some days I thought I was going to p**p out on them we worked so long.
While it was hard work some days, the joy of watching the dogs work and seeing them progress is so neat to see. That is the fun part of teaching for me. Setting up a problem for the dog to solve and then watching the dog do the work and learning what choices they need to make. The dogs retired to the camper and were somewhat exhausted each and every day.

We had a great time, as Lynn and Dave left today, they and the camper went out of Lab Land off on another dog adventure and they were headed to Gettysburgh PA. A long way from Lab Land. They will get there I am sure and not have any more trouble like they had on the way up here. They did some dog shows on the way up and then they needed a part for the truck which didn't help at all.

We thank them for coming to us, we are Blessed beyond what I can say. I thank them for their generosity for buying lunch and they were fun to work with.

God Bless y'all and Lynn and Dave also.

We had great weather for tracking. Not too hot, not too windy, now and then we did get some nice breezes and a little rain one night which helped.

Thank you again Lynn and Dave. Thanks for trusting us to get you started and having such great dogs. They were fun to watch and learn from.

Again God Bless y'all, thank you for trusting us and have a ton of fun with your dogs. They are really angles in disguise.

What is for breakfast. Well I can tell you today. For two days I have had a very light breakfast, then off to Lab Land to plan tracks for out two campers who came all the way from Findley Ohio to work. (Oh Breakfast, three cups of coffee, I used the Kureg my neighbor gave me, Green Mountian dark roast, Dunkin' Doughnuts original, Dunkin' Doughnuts Columbian, don't remember what order, pancakes, smokey links, butter on the pancakes and your choice of either Maple Syrup or Blueberry Syrup from Cracker Barrel, thanks to Laura, Jeff, Lisa!!) Jeff is Laura's husband. He is a fisherman and wine maker. Jeff would have sent wine, but he knows I am a drunk so he doesn't do that.

Laura and Lisa came for a min-vacation, some tracking camp to sight see and shop till they dropped. Of course they had to stop at all their favorite places to have something to eat. They worked hard for two days and they will now shop, sight see and enjoy being Up North.

We went to Jim's Joint BBQ for lunch on both Friday and Saturday. After working on Friday, there was a trip to Moomers with some sight seeing thrown in, not by our choosing. A road was closed so we had a small detour through the countryside and then back onto US-31 just beyond the construction. They are grinding down the road, then they will fix it and then re-pave it. US-31 will be as smooth as a baby's butt when they are finished. Right now it is rough as a corn cob.

Both Laura and Lisa have Border Terriers and they are willing to work. Both dogs learned a lot, the handlers did good most of the time. Of course we all know how it is starting out. By the end of the second day, both Laura and Lisa were just about in the groove.

After Lisa had run her dog, I let Mr. Mavrick out and he ran to greet Lisa's dog. I was not sure how Mavrick would react to Lisa's dog, they play bowed, then Royce wanted to go play with Mavrick. Lisa dropped the lead and it was off to the Preakness. Off they went, as fast as Royce could run. Mavrick ahead, then the roles reversed. Around and around they wet. Seemed lit 20 minutes they were full on play mode, I think it was really 5 minuters, but seemed a long time. The roles reversed more than once and it was just what Royce needed. He had worked hard and needed some play time. The game of chase is a great game for those two.

Both Griffin and Royce worked hard and Friday night they crashed at the motel. I am not 100% sure the handlers didn't also crash with them. Friday was bright sun and a light breeze and lots of clouds in the sky, those "cotton ball" type of clouds. One of those "Michigan Blue" skies and as I said those "cotton ball" type of clouds and it was delightful You could get sunburned if you were not careful.

Saturday was a very nice day. Cloudy and not super hot, overcast and a nice breeze and then the wind came up more. Was just right for small dogs to work in that kind of weather. Morning was spend with some nice tracks that taxed their abilities and then lunch and then back for another short easy track for both dogs and then Laura dnd Lisa were going to go back to the motel and inspect each other for ticks, we found some on ourselves and so just to be sure, we suggest that. Then they could do what they wanted.

Today is overcast with some showers forcast, but not heavy rain. Both of them are off to have fun

So before the both of them left yesterday, they gave us a some presents. A book, a box of Cracker Barrel Pancake Mix and a bottle of Blueberry Syrup and a gift card. They had already sent a deposit for camp and Susan had figured out how much more they owed her. You see I go along to pick up flags and to watch dogs work and see how the handlers are doing. I try to stay quiet while they are working, but now and then, that is impossible for me. I try to help evaluate what they did after the track. Friday I walked all the tracks, Saturday I walked one of the tracks in the afternoon. I cut up small limbs and other stuff while they were working.

There was a lovely card and it was great to see them both since most of our communication has been via either phone, text or Facebook. It is fun to see little dogs work and learn.

We are very grateful for both Lisa's and Laura'a generosity while they were here. They are way too kind and we appreciate everything they did for us.

It was a fun two days, lots of work, I got one of the best night's sleep in a week, walked a lot and feel better for doing all that work. I got most of the tings done I wanted to do. I didn't run any mowers while dogs were working, I usually do add that kind of distraction so the dog get accustomed to noise that may occur at a test. The handlers worked quite well, asked good questions and had some fun.

I thank both of them for coming. Their mini-vacation I hope is turning out to be a huge success. Now and then it is just plain great to get away from some of the same old routine of life and enjoy the sunshine, the beauty of the season changing and to listen to the sounds of Mother Nature. ( well for a while I think Mother Nature was having a temper tantrum!!)

We thank both Laura and Lisa, God Bless them and take care of them when they travel home.

The Lord bless you and keep you,.
