🐴 PEACHES UPDATE:
An incredibly scary scare, but we are on the uphill!
🐴Yesterday late afternoon, we had a major scare with our sweet girl. Peaches had to be caught all the way at the back of the pasture—and if you know her, that is absolutely NOT her normal behavior. Usually, the second a car pulls up to the barn, she’s right there trying to bribe you for a peppermint! 🍬💨
Once we brought her into the barn, we knew something was seriously wrong. She was coughing, yawning, breathing extremely hard, and showing sudden swelling in her lower face, neck, legs, and stomach.We immediately jumped into action and hosed her down, but it was clear she was really struggling to breathe the more we were around her.
We quickly put a plan together:
🌡️ Checked her temperature: It was completely normal.
🩺 Ruled out colic: Her heart rate was normal. Gut sounds were good.
📞 Called the vet: We held off on giving dex until we got a second opinion. Because she could still graze and drink, we ruled out an active choke, though the big assumption is that she may have choked earlier in the day and it tried to resolve itself over time. She has choked before, but this was completely different and so odd.
📈 The Good News:
We truly believe we are on the uphill now! She has been on great medications for the last 8 hours and is drinking wonderfully. She’s already had plenty of her Replenimash and is resting comfortably. 🥣💧
