This is heartbreaking and disgusting at the same time. We hope Roadie will fill his furever home soon. If you feel like you would be a good match for him please please contact the humane society.
UPDATE: We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming response and concern for Roadie. He has been getting lots of extra love from our staff to help heal his heart ❤️🩹 If you would like to give this sweet boy a loving furever home, please stop in during open hours or give us a call at 229-228-0613!
This is not the photo of Roadie we planned to post today.
Just two days ago, we shared the happiest news: after more than 200 days in our care, our long-term resident Roadie had finally found a home. His first-ever Doggy Day Out seemed to give him the confidence boost he needed, and we were overjoyed when someone chose to adopt him.
But yesterday morning, we arrived at the shelter to find Roadie tied to a tree. Alone. Confused. Scared. Wondering what he had done wrong.
The truth? Roadie didn’t do anything wrong.
When we reached out to the adopter, we learned that Roadie had been doing wonderfully—sweet, snuggly, and settling in beautifully. But a different family member, unhappy with his presence, made the choice to return him in the worst way possible. They didn’t wait for us to open. They didn’t call. They didn’t knock. They simply left him—tied up, and walked away.
No dog deserves this. But especially not Roadie.
He’s a little shy at first, but incredibly affectionate once he trusts you. He adores quiet moments, gentle walks, and leaning in for love. He just wants someone who won’t give up on him.
We’re determined to find him a family that will choose him, protect him, and never make him feel disposable again. A family that will be forever this time. Because “forever” should mean forever—especially for a dog who’s waited this long to hear the word.
If you think you might be that person, stop by during open hours, 1–6pm, and meet Roadie. He’s ready to try again. ❤️
