𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱!!!
We need your help! Popeye is a sweet, friendly, young boy who was living on the streets until someone asked if WSRH could take him. We said yes and had him taken to our vet for assessment, where we learned Popeye has canine papilloma virus, affecting his entire mouth and impacting his ability to eat. Now he needs a special short-term foster to help him be the healthy guy we all know he can be!
The canine papilloma virus cannot spread to humans or pets other than dogs, so he is looking for a foster home that would have no other dogs* and would have a fenced yard for playtime (because dog parks are off limits). Popeye can go on leash walks but should not be allowed to interact or socialize with other dogs.
He had a sleepover this weekend with a volunteer who has a cat as we attempt to come up with a foster for him. Popeye was perfectly fine with the cat, but the cat was stressed by his presence so he can not stay. The volunteer says he is “a really really REALLY good dog! He is completely crate trained (he slept through the entire night in a crate and never made a noise), potty trained and listens well. He also didn't show any aggression towards my cat! He's very playful too!”
With the supportive care and medications Popeye is receiving, we expect the virus should be clearing in 3-4 weeks, and can move him into another foster home at that time if needed. Can you give 3-4 weeks to help save a life?
Popeye is about 6 months old and weighs just over 20 lbs. Apply to foster at WSRH.com or send us an email: [email protected]
*The vet said that even if the foster has other dogs, if you can keep Popeye in a separate room and are able to be careful about washing your hands, changing clothes, and keeping bowls/blankets/toys etc separate than it should be okay! Just no houses with young dogs or with compromised immunity.
