We’ll plan the outings, fire up the grill and enjoy the day—but this day isn’t about us. It’s about those who served and never made it back. Their sacrifice lets us live, create, and even complain about the small stuff.

This song has always been a favorite of mine, but on this day it means so much more. Hearing “God Bless the USA” with the U.S. Air Force Band fills my heart with USA pride and brings back memories of my grandparents and uncles—veterans who came home, lived full lives, and have since passed on.

I’m also thinking of my family members who are lacing up their boots today, along with their spouses and children. I’m proud of every one of you.

Life is short, freedom is precious, and both are gifts paid for by others. Grateful for every breath and every blessing.

Gratitude and perspective, today and always. 🇺🇸

Today is National Rescue Dog Day!
It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about the many dogs in shelters and rescue organizations waiting for forever homes, and to encourage adoptions.

How to Celebrate:
Adopting a Rescue Dog: This is the most impactful way to celebrate.

Fostering: Providing temporary care for a rescue dog can help them adjust to a new environment and socialize.

Volunteering: Helping at local shelters and rescue organizations with tasks like walking dogs, grooming, and providing affection can benefit the animals. Check out Texarkana Animal League for volunteer opportunities!

Donating: Shelters and Rescue groups often need supplies like blankets, toys, and treats.

Educating Others: Share the importance of kindness, unconditional love, and responsible pet care with children and others.
