🐷 Big day for our little piggies here at Sinnett Acres!

Well, tonight was definitely one for the farm books! 😂 Our little boys officially got castrated, and WOW… what an experience that was!

First of all, someone remind us to bring EARPLUGS next time! 🤣🔊 Those little piggies have some serious lungs on them, and don’t let their size fool you… they are STRONG! It took both John and me to hold them still while our wonderful vet worked his magic!

And of course, Mama Ember wasn’t about to let anyone mess with her babies without putting up a fight! 🐽❤️ She actually busted out of her pen trying to come to their rescue! Talk about a protective mama! Thankfully, we were able to safely get her into our hog trap until everything was finished. Once she was back in her pen with a little feed, all was forgiven. She went right back to happily wallowing in the mud and wagging that little tail of hers like nothing ever happened. 😂

John and I have already been talking about whether we’re brave enough to tackle this ourselves with the next litter when they’re younger… or whether we’ll just keep this job on the vet’s to-do list! 🤣 I’m leaning toward the vet!

We’re still learning so much as we grow our little heritage pork operation, and every new experience teaches us something. Some days it’s sweet baby piglet cuddles, and other days it’s wrestling squealing piglets while their mama plans a jailbreak! That’s farm life for you! ❤️

But the exciting news is our piglets are one step closer to being ready for their new homes! 🐷🏡

We sure are enjoying sharing this journey with y’all, even the loud, muddy, chaotic parts! 🌿🐽

Our little piglets have officially been separated from mama for almost a full week now, and weaning has gone so well. 🤎

They are eating their feed really well, settling into their new routine, and becoming more independent every day. One thing we’ve learned through this process is that a smooth weaning transition really comes down to making sure they are already comfortable eating on their own, have plenty of fresh water, and have a safe, low-stress place to settle in together.

It’s been so fun watching this litter grow and learning more with every stage. Our pork operation is still growing right along with us, and we’re definitely learning as we go.

These babies will be ready for their new homes soon, and it’s a little bittersweet seeing how fast they’re growing. 🐷

Yesterday we traded farm chores for a little zoo adventure. 🧡🐘🦜

We were invited to celebrate a family friend’s birthday at the Tyler Zoo, and honestly, it was such a good reminder that sometimes you need to step away from the work, the plans, and the “what’s next” for a little while and just enjoy the day in front of you.

The kids loved getting up close with the birds, feeding the parakeets, watching the parrots, and learning how different animals interact and trust people. I love moments like that because even outside our own farm, there’s always something new to learn.

This season of life has taught us a lot about slowing down, being grateful for the simple things, and appreciating the people who invite you out, make you laugh, and give you a reason to make a good memory in the middle of a hard chapter.

And of course… after spending time in the bird sanctuary, John is now wondering if Sinnett Acres needs parakeets. 😂

Because apparently we do not have enough animals already.

Grateful for a fun day, good friends, curious kids, and one more sweet memory to add to this season. 🙏

We’ve noticed so many new faces stopping by our page lately, so we just wanted to say welcome — we’re glad you’re here. 👋

Sinnett Acres Farm is our family, our animals, the things we’re learning, and the life we’re building one season at a time.

After losing our farmhouse in the fire, we’re stepping into a chapter we never expected. This next year will bring some big changes, fresh plans, and hopefully new opportunities as we figure out what comes next.

Along the way, we’ll be sharing our goats, pigs, cattle, chickens, kids growing up around the farm, and our growing premium pork operation. We also have different livestock available throughout the year as babies are born, animals mature, and each season brings something new.

More than anything, we’d love to build a little farm community here — a place to make new friends, learn from one another, support each other, and share the good, the hard, and all the chaos in between.

Here’s to new beginnings, open doors, growing through the hard seasons, and trusting God with whatever comes next.

Rowan has a new favorite on the farm. He spent his morning taking care of Clyde while i did the rest of the chores. He was busy having all kinds of conversations with him then asked me to take his picture. We are grateful to have such a friendly boar here for our ladies.

DUCKS 🦆

Is anyone interested in ducks? I have decided to go ahead and find a home for my duck flock i have 19 of them i believe. I have decided to start over in the future once we are settled again. Most of them are Cayuga, some mixed, two pekins, and a rouen. I have many Cayuga males to choose from as well.

The kids and I have officially made it home from a two-day road trip full of errands, miles, snacks, and one very exciting pickup. 😂🐷

Everyone meet Clyde — our new young registered Berkshire boar and hopefully a really important part of the future of our pork program.

We chose Clyde very intentionally. He comes from old Bonnie heritage lines, and out of the boars we had to choose from, he was the one that really stood out to us for his width, stout build, depth, and overall substance. His breeder told us he should mature more like his sire, and seeing the kind of thick, powerful Berkshire his dad is made us even more excited about what Clyde could become.

Our goal with him is simple: keep building toward the kind of pigs we’re proud to put our name behind — sound, thick, balanced, well-muscled hogs with excellent pork quality first, but with enough structure and eye appeal that select pigs from our litters can also have a future in 4-H and FFA as crossbred show prospects.

We’re especially excited to see what he brings to our girls over the next few years and how he helps shape the look of our herd as we keep selecting for better body, ham, width, growth, and overall quality.

He’s young, he has a lot of growing to do, and this is just the beginning — but we are SO excited to have him here.

I have spent the day getting caught up on our ADGA registration with all the babies. Our buck’s DNA is finally on file and i am so glad to finally be caught up. It was definitely a learning curve this past year but now i can be prepared for next year and know what to expect. Thank you to everyone who has adopted one of our goat kids. I can’t wait to see them grow up with their new herds! ❤️👏🥰🐐
