Unlike us, dogs don’t sweat through their skin to regulate temperature. Instead, they rely on:

👅 Panting – Helps evaporate moisture and release heat
🐾 Paw Pads – Contain a few sweat glands, but not enough to cool their whole body
🌬️ Behavior – Seeking shade, lying on cool surfaces, or limiting activity

In Florida heat, that natural cooling system can only do so much. That’s why it’s so important to keep pups hydrated, avoid mid-day walks, and know the signs of overheating.

Because staying cool is more than comfort—it’s critical to their health. 💧🐾

Meet Daffy, the duck who has stolen our hearts! Some of you asked for more info on her, so we decided to share her story!

Our amazing technician Taylor found Daffy abandoned and far from any body of water when she was just days old. She could not find her family, so she took her home and started feeding her. Daffy bonded with Taylor’s dogs (2 large pit bulls) and loved to swim in her kiddie pool while they played in the yard. Once she got bigger, she started venturing over to the pond across the street. One day, she did not come home, and Taylor found her injured in a neighbors yard with a large bite wound to the chest.

Taylor has been dedicated to healing this sweet duck. Twice a day hydrotherapy, injectable antibiotics, and probiotics, and it seems to be healing!! Daffy has been coming to work and we are all in love!! 💕

✨Meet Julia!✨

Julia is a veterinary technician who’s been doing what she loves since 2017! She has a deep passion for animals and treats them like her own, spoiling them, loving them, and occasionally bribing them with treats. Julia is particularly fond of veterinary dentistry and surgery, she is always ready to learn new things.

At home, Julia is surrounded by four dogs and three cats, including a tripod kitty named Rip. When she’s not at the clinic, you can find her at the beach or on the boat, soaking up the sun and spending time with her friends and family. ☀️

We are excited to have Julia join the BHV family!
