Prickly Pear Cat Rescue and TNR

We are a small nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Phoenix area East Valley cats. We began Prickly Pear Cat Rescue and TNR in the fall of 2021.

We have always been passionate about animal welfare and after a few years of working with our city to Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) community cats, along with working with other rescues for resources for adoptable kittens from local colonies, we decided to direct our efforts into creating and running a nonprofit organization so that we can continue this important work. This change in direction was du

e to the city deciding to end its funding of the TNR program and our need to continue fundraising to help these cats in a humane manner. We are a small no-kill organization with the goals of ensuring that local community cats are cared for with adequate food, safe shelter, spay and neuter, community education, and placing adoptable cats in homes.

🌊🐾 Meet Ariel, our newest little purrmaid! 🐾🌊

This incredibly sweet 9-month-old kitten joined us recently at Prickly Pear Cat Rescue. Ariel is paraplegic—her hind legs don’t work, but that hasn’t stopped her one bit. Like her namesake, she’s curious, resilient, and full of heart. 💙

Paraplegic cats are lovingly called “mermaid” or “purrmaid” cats because of how they move—gracefully scooting along like they’re swimming through life. And Ariel is no exception. She’s already charming us with her gentle spirit and affectionate nature.

We’re so happy to be part of her journey and can’t wait to share more about her adventures, her care, and her future.

Belated Adoption News! 💜🐾

We’re a little (very) late in posting this, but we’re so happy to share that sweet Violet has been adopted! 🎉

Violet came to us shy and unsure, but with patience, love, and time, she blossomed into the affectionate, curious girl we all knew she could be. She found her perfect match with a wonderful family who adores her—and she now spends her days soaking up all the pets and following her humans around like the loyal little shadow she is.

Thank you to everyone who supported Violet’s journey, shared her story, and cheered her on. Happy tails, Violet! 💕 You’ll always be part of the Prickly Pear Cat Rescue family. 🐱

🎉🎂 Happy 1st Birthday to Lego’s kittens — Gigi, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy! 🐾💫

It feels like just yesterday these tiny babies came into our care, full of curiosity and s***k. Today, they’re thriving in their forever homes, living their best lives — and we couldn’t be happier. Watching them grow has been such a joy, and we’re so grateful to have been a part of their journey. 🥰

Thank you to everyone who supported their rescue, foster care, and adoption. Whether you donated, shared their story, or cheered them on — you made their happy ending possible. 💖

We love updates on our former fosters!!

This is formerly Marshmallow, now Pigeon, with his dog brother Goose. They are clearly best buddies now.

If you would like a very sweet, pretty calm, and silly cat, we still have Violet available for adoption. She gets along with most of her foster siblings. She would do well in a home with other cats who are relatively mellow. Violet enjoys being a bathroom attendant while her foster parents get ready for bed by jumping up on the counter and making sure they’re brushing their teeth adequately. She also enjoys following her foster dad around while he’s dishing out wet food. Don’t forget, we still have the tuxedo sisters available for adoption! 🤵‍♀️

These three will do best adopted together, possibly to a home with other cats. They love other cats, and each other.

They may look similar, but their personalities are different.

Chloe (front right) is outgoing, and loves people and other cats. She is sweet and gentle, and has a cute squeaky meow.

Sasha (left) is a little sassy. She likes attention on her terms. That means she is a fan of butt scratches, and is really affectionate in bed just before it’s time to go to sleep. She gets in bed with her foster parents and meows for attention while making biscuits.

Felicia (back right) is the most shy. She is usually surrounding herself with the other cats. She appreciates a slow approach to pet her face and rub her cheeks.

Meet Violet, our newest available foster at Prickly Pear Cat Rescue! This gorgeous girl is about a year and a half old, and while she may be a little shy at first, she’s incredibly sweet and affectionate once she warms up. She loves being pet and will even follow you around the house, looking for love and companionship. 💜

Welcome to Prickly Pear, Violet!

Violet is about a year and a half old, and comes to us because her human passed away and the family is not able to keep her (they would if they could). We are glad to be able to help Violet and her family during this difficult time.

We will get her settled, make sure she’s healthy and UTD on vaccines, and then she will be available for adoption to start her next adventure.
