$82 a day, $576 a week, $2,500 a month, $30,000 a year! Those are our dog food costs each and every year. When you rescue a lot of dogs there’s always a lot of money spent just providing the essentials. This is why we’ve started our Bowls of Hope campaign! Each and every one of you can ensure our dogs always have a full belly and an even more full heart ❤️

As much as we wish rescue could be free it never will. We’ll always need the support of our community to give these lives their second chance. Your donation and participation in this campaign ensures every dog in our care gets exactly what they need during their time with our rescue. Food is the most basic of needs and it’s also one of our biggest expenses.

Bowls of Hope is a fun way to get involved and share the love. You can simply donate, you can start a fundraising team or you can join an existing team. However you choose to support you’re going to spread a lot of love to our furry friends in need. To check it out, make or join a team or simply to donate go to the linktree in our bio or the donate section of our website. Can’t find the link? Just ask and we’ll send the direct link to you 😊

Look at this beautiful pup! Orisa is only 2 years old and has already been bounced around quite a bit. Orisa is now with an amazing foster and is thriving with the stability. She is calm and well behaved inside the house but does enjoy playing and getting the zoomies outside.

When our lives lack structure, it can feel like our whole world is in chaos. Building structure back into our lives can benefit our mental health and pave the way to progress.

Our TNT program is designed to help veterans and first responders navigate the world and adjust to life’s challenges. The dogs often serve as examples for us. To learn more, contact us today!

Arlo is a sweet boy and another example of resilience and living in the moment. Arlo has been in a foster home for over a year. He has a solid routine and schedule and thrives with structure. Arlo loves to explore and stay physically active.
All too often we make judgements about dogs based on their looks, size, and breed. Arlo needs a specific home type and because of this, he has not gotten much adoption interest.
Just like Arlo, people often judge other people without getting to know them. Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue and Troops N Tails are working hard to break down these stigmas for people and dogs.

This is Cherokee. Cherokee is a 6 to 7 year old German Shepherd mix. She came into the shelter as a stray and quickly became a favorite there. She was running out of time so the shelter contacted us and Cherokee came into our rescue. Cherokee’s body shows a lot of damage and we can only assume that she has had a tough life. Despite her scars, Cherokee has been a happy, social girl that seems to have let all of her worries go. She is confident and affectionate and seems to treat each day as a fresh start.
Cherokee sets a great example for us by showing us how to live in the moment and let the past go.

Sweet Jack is always the last one to be picked. After spending 781 days with our rescue, Jack still hasn’t found his people. Jack isn’t perfect, but who is?
Jack didn’t trust people or dogs when he came to us but he has come so far in the two years we have had him. He can now be around other dogs and is much more trusting with people.
As a salty Navy veteran, our operations manager has a soft spot for Jack. “Jack can be a little tough around the edges but he has a story we can relate to. Jack still hasn’t some walks built up but he has let his guard down with our staff and volunteers and shows us what resilience looks like. Society expects perfection and instant gratification these days and it’s heart breaking to know what a great dog he is but he continues to be overlooked.”
Jack is about 7 years old, a pitbull, weighs about 55lbs, and has black fur. All of these tend to be counted as strikes against him. We need your help to break down breed, size, and color stigmas. Jack needs our help!!

Can you imagine giving 8 to 10 years of your life to something and then losing everything? Maybe a job or a relationship? For 10 years you were loyal and then one day you were thrown away and discarded as if you didn’t matter.
Many of us have experienced this very thing. What emotions came up? How did you respond?
Harriett is just over 10 years old. 8 years ago she was adopted through one of our local shelters. After 8 years of loving her family, this poor pup was discarded. Her family abandoned her when she needed them most. Hera was at the shelter for more than 60 days and was running out of time but no one wanted to adopt “the old dog”. Thankfully we had an amazing foster step up for her and as you can see, she is thriving and still has a lot of life and love to give!
We see so many parallels between these rescue dogs and people, especially our veterans and first responders.

There is so much resilience in a dog like Duffy. The sweetest of boys walking around with injuries that should have made him crumble. But instead he loved, ignoring the pain we knew he felt. Duffy has gotten the surgery he so desperately needed but his broken body is a reminder that the most broken amongst us often have the biggest spirits. People like the thousands of veterans and 1st responders living in our communities staying strong through the pain of their service.

They hide their pain but we want to give them an outlet through animal assisted therapy. Dogs are the best therapy and together with a licensed therapist we want to watch both human and dog grow and heal. Meet Stumpy!
This tiny boy was found limping around town. He wouldn’t use his left rear leg at all. The shelter took him and got x-rays done. Stumpy had two severe breaks in that leg. The breaks were old and a repair wasn’t going to be an option for him. Stumpy had to have his leg removed. Stumpy is fully recovered from his surgery and he is one happy guy now. Stumpy has quickly learned to run and jump and play without that leg. He is pain free, probably for the first time in years!!
As a veteran or first responders, have you experienced a physical injury? Maybe one that altered your physical abilities for the rest of your life? How have you approached that challenge? Are you still processing?
Troops N Tails is a program designed to pair veterans and first responders with therapists assisted by dogs. These rescue dogs can teach us so much about overcoming challenging situations, adapting to new environments, and finding peace even after traumatic experiences.

We don’t know much about Reina’s history but when we met her she was only about 7 months old and she was absolutely terrified of people. She was immediately placed with an experienced foster. The fosters recognized that even though she did not trust people, she trusted other dogs. They began structuring her environment around the other dogs and used that connection to start building trust in people.
When we experience trauma, abuse, and neglect, we lose trust in people and maybe even specific environments. Our goal is to help dogs and people work through the trauma, have positive experiences, and rebuild trust.
Would you like to participate in this program? Do you know a veteran or first responders that might benefit from this program? Please help us share information about TNT so we can help more people heal.

This is Knox!
Knox is a 2 year old Shepherd mix and is a fantastic boy. Knox was adopted in 2023 after being brought into the county shelter as a stray. A year later, he was picked up as a stray again. Attempts were made to contact his owners and no one showed up for him. Knox spent two months at the shelter. He was overlooked by adopters time and again. Can you imagine his despair? The loneliness he must have felt? Have you experienced similar feelings?
Now Knox is thriving in his foster home. He has decompressed and come out of his shell. He finally feels safe again. Now he is searching for a safe forever home and family.
We strive to be a safe haven for dogs and for people. Our Troops N Tails program seeks to provide a safe space for veterans and first responders that have experienced trauma. The program allows participants to connect with dogs that have also experienced trauma. Our participants and dogs provide each other with support and love and help each other heal

Meet Butters
This 4 month old puppy has already been through so much in his short life. At two months old, he was found as a stray along with his littermates. There were no adult dogs found with them and no owners came forward. Butters spent 23 days at the shelter and watched all but one of his littermates get adopted. He and his brother then got sick and were at risk of being euthanized. We pulled them both into the rescue and they got healthy in a foster home. They then came to our rescue ranch and two days later, Brutus was adopted and again, Butters was left behind. Butters is still currently with the rescue and is setting a wonderful example of resilience, adapting to change, and living in the present. He, like so many other dogs, can teach us some valuable lessons.
If you are interested in participating in our therapy program or would like to meet Butters, please reach out to us [email protected]

Why donate to Marleys Mutts? Because we work tirelessly to save more lives. Lives that benefit from our programs both people and pups! Without the public’s support none of what we do would be possible and so many lives would never get their chance. Just look at every program we run each giving back to Kern County: Marleys Mutts Rescue Ranch- our rescue hub where so much of the adoption magic happens and where many of our medium and large breed dogs reside Pawsitive Change- our prison program that pairs inmate trainers with euthanasia listed dogs. Giving the trainers a job skill they can utilize upon release and the dogs the skills they need to find adoptive homes. Miracle Mutts- our therapy dog program that provides therapy dog services 7 days a week in the community at no charge. Mutt Movers- rescue by relocation. We partner with rescues in other areas who have space for dogs and transport shelter dogs in need directly to themTroops and Tails- Canine assisted therapy pairing veterans with at risk dogs and licensed therapists We’re doing a lot to make the positive impact our community needs and we hope you see everything we’re trying to accomplish. If you do please consider giving a little so we can continue doing a lot for the people and pets most in need.
