🦟 Heartworm disease is a serious β€” and potentially deadly β€” threat to our pets, and mosquito season may last longer than you think, especially in urban areas.

Just one mosquito bite from an infected mosquito can transmit heartworms to dogs (and even cats). Prevention is far easier β€” and much less expensive β€” than treatment.

At The PAWS Clinic, we recommend:
🐾 Year-round heartworm prevention
🐾 Annual heartworm testing for dogs 7 months and older
🐾 Keeping pets up to date on preventive care

Heartworm disease is preventable. Protect your pets before mosquito season turns dangerous.

Schedule your dogs annual heartworm test today! Call 313-451-8200 and leave a message.

Summer fun can turn dangerous fast for our pets. Dogs can overheat much quicker than people, and heatstroke can become life-threatening in just minutes.

Here are some important ways to keep your dog safe and cool this summer:

🐢 Always provide fresh, cool water
🌳 Make sure they have access to shade or air conditioning
🚫 Never leave pets in parked cars β€” even for a minute
πŸ”₯ Avoid walks on hot pavement (if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws)
⏰ Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler
πŸ’¦ Offer cooling mats, kiddie pools, or frozen treats for enrichment
🐾 Be extra careful with puppies, senior pets, overweight pets, and flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs and Pugs

Signs of heatstroke can include:
❗ Excessive panting
❗ Drooling
❗ Weakness or stumbling
❗ Vomiting or diarrhea
❗ Bright red gums
❗ Collapse

If you suspect heatstroke, move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact a veterinarian right away.

🐾 Prevent a Litter: Spay & Neuter Together 🐾

We're offering a special DISCOUNT for households with BOTH an unaltered male and female pet of the same species (dog/dog or cat/cat).

πŸ’™ How It Works:
βœ… Spay the female first at regular price
βœ… Get $50 off a male cat neuter (Also available: $100 off a male dog neuter)
βœ… Surgeries can be done the same day (if kennel space allows)
βœ… Must mention "Prevent a Litter" when scheduling
βœ… The male must be neutered within 30 days of the female or you may forfeit the discount.
βœ… Both pets must live in the same household

πŸ“Œ Miss an appointment? You may forfeit the discount when rescheduling.
🚫 Cannot be combined with other grants or promotions.

Together, we can reduce the number of unwanted littersβ€”one home at a time.

πŸ“ž Call 313-451-8200 to request your appointment and mention in your message: "Prevent a Litter"

For OUTDOOR & COMMUNITY cats ONLY. Not personal pets.

Exciting news for our community cat caretakers! 🐾

We are thrilled to announce that The PAWS Clinic has received a generous grant from the ASPCA to help us spay and neuter 1,000 community cats in 2026!

Thanks to this funding, we are able to offer a comprehensive "Community Cat Package" for just $10 per cat.

πŸ“ What’s Included for $10:
Β· Spay/Neuter Surgery
Β· Rabies Vaccine
Β· FVRCP Vaccine
Β· Eartip (The universal sign of a cared-for community cat)
Β· Ivermectin (Treatment for parasites)

πŸ“ž How to Book
Appointments are required. To request a spot, please follow these steps:

1. Call 313-451-8200 and leave a detailed message.
2. Timing is key: We only book appointments one week at a time. It's still best to call Monday's at 9am for these appointments. They fill VERY quickly.
3. The "Thursday Rule": Our staff works hard to fill spots quickly. If you do not hear back from us by Thursday, it means we are fully booked for the upcoming week.
4. Try again! If you don't get in this time, please call us back the following Monday to try for the next week's schedule.

Please do not trap until you have an appointment secured.

We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the ASPCA for their incredible support in helping us reduce the overpopulation of community cats and keep our feline neighbors healthy! 🐱❀️
