Happy National Dog Day!

In 2011, Cornerstone Hospice, an affiliate of Chapters Health System, became one of the first hospice providers in Florida to partner with the National Pet Peace of Mind program. The program’s mission is to help chronically ill patients remain with their cherished pets as long as possible by offering volunteer assistance and funding, while encouraging families to make proactive plans for their pets’ care. All Chapters Health affiliates, including Cornerstone Hospice, have been awarded this life-changing program. It embodies our holistic approach to hospice care, supporting not just patients but their whole families, including animal companions.

Cornerstone treasures all our patients, and they often become exceptionally dear to us. One such couple, unfortunately, declined rapidly and required facility care. Dedicated Blue Team nurse Jim and social worker Daria went above and beyond to ensure they’d receive our exceptional care. The couple loved their senior Pomeranian, Bear, and refused to leave him. That is, until their nurse Jim decided to adopt Bear! Meanwhile, Pet Peace of Mind volunteer Karen Sanders sprang into action. Within hours, Bear was at the vet for a wellness check, ready to join Jim at home.

Thanks to Pet Peace of Mind and generous heart, Bear now has a loving forever home, just as they would have wanted.

It took a few meet-n-greets but Riley is now in the forever home where she was meant to be. Riley and her new 2-legged sibling love to play and sleep together! Thank you everyone for pulling together and getting her flyer out❤🐾

Last year after their mom passed, Twitch and Biddle were picked up by Cornerstone Hospice Pet Peace of Mind Volunteer Karen Sanders to transport them to get their vaccines. Since there was no one to care for them, Karen took them to her home where she fostered Twitch and Biddle for a year. Not only did they need to be vaccinated but Biddle also needed to be neutered. Thankfully, LEASH, Inc covered the cost for him to be neutered. A year later a home still had not been found. Karen filled out the adoption applications and took them in to renew their vaccines. A big Thank You to Karen and LEASH for making a difference in the lives of these two orphaned cats.

Great News for Lake County, Florida Residents! LEASH will be providing free microchipping and spay/neuter certificates at the Lake County Humane Society this Saturday April 12th from 10am- 2pm.
LEASH, Inc is an important part of our pet community. They have been a great resource in helping our hospice patient’s pets.
