It's $5 Friday with Moe! Can you send this little boy a couple bucks to help with his bum leg? Donation information below ⬇️
We told yinz about Moe earlier this month - he was rescued with his siblings Joe, Bo, and Flo from a small pen in deep mud, right before the first freeze of the year. His siblings came straight to our rescue and he headed to a temporary foster while waiting for an important appointment at Ohio State.
Moe has had lop-sided hips since birth, likely from an early injury, so we wanted to get imaging to figure out why. His foster thought it was a hip injury... but the CT scan show he has torn ligaments in his left knee. This is probably good news, as there are a few options we can now consider! Moe has great mobility now, but over time the misaligned joint cartilage will start to break down and become very painful.
The vet team at Ohio State are going to consider surgical options, including using a graft ligament to repair the torn one or TPLO. Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) involves cutting, rotating, and stabilizing the face of the tibia bone to change the joint's mechanics, making it more stable and relieving pain. We aren't sure if this has been done in pigs, but the vet team is consulting the Small Animal department and a few other leads.
Moe's current bill for his neuter and CT scan is just over $800. We aren't sure what his future holds, but we are so happy to get him the new start in life he deserves! He is only a year old but has so much life left to live 🥺
With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, we hope you'll help support us doing what we do best - saving piggies! All of our funding comes from our friends and supporters. We don't take a salary and every dollar goes directly to each pig under our care. Please consider sending Moe a couple bucks to help him on his journey. Thoinks!
