Honest advice — sometimes the smartest thing you can do is buy a new blanket. 🐴 🧐

Here's the math nobody talks about:

Washing + waterproofing: $40
Repair (strap, surcingle, small tear): $20+
Total to restore a blanket: $60+

A brand new basic turnout blanket? $80–150.

So if your blanket is a few years old, not a quality brand, AND it needs washing, waterproofing AND repairs — you're spending $60+ to save something worth maybe $50. That's just not worth it.

Here's the simple rule I give my customers:

✅ WORTH restoring if:
- It's a quality brand (Rambo, Weatherbeeta, Smartpak, Rhino etc.)
- It's less than 3–4 years old and the shell is still solid

❌ BETTER to buy new if:
- It's a budget brand and needs the full works
- The shell fabric is thin, cracked or heavily worn
- Repairs are more than 2–3 broken parts

The honest truth? I'd rather tell you to buy new than take your money for a blanket that won't last another season.

I posted this photo 3 years ago when I was just starting out. I'm reposting it today because a lot of you are new here — and I think you deserve to know who's washing your horse's blankets. 🐴

That's me and Maddie.

Maddie is still with me. And yes, I still wear these breeches. 😄

Three years ago, I came back to the riding world after a long break and quickly realized — this is who I am and where I belong. After buying my first horse and comparing the equestrian market here in the US to what I knew from Europe, I noticed a big gap. Quality products, professional care, fair prices — things that were normal back home were really hard to find locally.

So I decided to do something about it.

What started as a dream of an online tack shop focused on European brands evolved into something I didn't expect — a deep passion for actually caring for the equipment itself. Wash-in waterproofing vs spray waterproofing for horse blankets 🤔🐴

A lot of people ask what the difference is — and honestly, both have their place.

✨ Spray waterproofing:
• Great for quick touch-ups
• Usually only coats the outer surface
• Often used on small areas needing extra protection

✨ Wash-in waterproofing (what I use):
• Treats the ENTIRE blanket evenly
• Gets into seams, stitching, and hard-to-reach areas
• Helps restore water repellency while maintaining breathability
• Ideal for heavily used turnout blankets

I use Nikwax wash-in waterproofing designed specifically for horse blankets because it provides even coverage throughout the blanket — not just the surface.

Sprays can work well for spot treatment or refreshing certain areas, but for full blanket restoration, wash-in waterproofing gives more complete protection 👌

Quick waterproofing test:
💧 Spray water on the blanket.
If the water soaks in instead of beading up, it may be time for re-waterproofing.
