‼️KITTEN ADOPTIONS AND INTAKES HALTED JUNE 18 – JULY 2 DUE TO DISEASE OUTBREAK‼️

Effective Wednesday, June 18, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay will STOP ALL ADOPTIONS AND INTAKES OF KITTENS UNDER THE AGE OF 4 MONTHS in response to a highly contagious and deadly strain of Feline Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper) that is affecting the greater Tampa Bay area. This quarantine will be in effect until Wednesday July 2.

This drastic but necessary decision was made with much care after consulting veterinary experts. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has seen a steady increase in cases and severity and it is our responsibility to protect the public and break the spread of this serious disease.

Feline Panleukopenia is most often seen in underage, unvaccinated, and immunocompromised kittens. Symptoms of the infection do not show up for several days after exposure and once they begin the deterioration is rapid and painful, often leading to death. Symptoms of Feline Panleukopenia include:
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Severe dehydration
- Lethargy and Depression
- Loss of appetite

If you have a cat or kitten with any of these symptoms, please seek veterinary care immediately.

6-21-25 Transferred to 'Animal Control' - apparently, Xena was sent to another shelter, we have no further info on this cute girl

Xena!! What a gorgeous girl! She has listed as a 10 month old boxer! We love her! ❤️
She was adopted and returned right away for playing too hard with the one dog but did great with the other dogs. She is a pup! She is healthy and ready to find a real forever home!!!! 60lbs

“Did well with people. Loves chew toys especially squeaks. Selective about which pets she liked in the household. She liked one of the male dogs in the household. She would get aggressive during play with other dogs.”

All the dogs in the albums are located in Hillsborough County Animal Services in Tampa Fl (Pet “Resource” Center). Shelter evaluations are difficult due to the stressful environment, so the best thing to do is to go meet the dog. We do our very best as volunteers to meet every dog and post them.
