If you are dealing with a breeder with no reviews anywhere pls proceed with caution. Many times people leave reviews on Facebook, Google, Birdbreeders.com where you can read the reviews and get a sense of who you are dealing with. Truly grateful to the amazing people who have left us reviews helping others identify what it might be like working with us! This is one field where you need to do your research and not fall for the scammers who prey on people with cheap prices that lead to non existent birds!

Looking back at our baby Cubans we raised this past year. In the moment when you take care of babies u see them for what they are. Babies that need your 24 hr care. But then only 3 months later they are fully feathered and ready to take on the world. Truly love what we do here at Parrot baby!

When purchasing a bird especially a bird like a macaw you should always make sure that the breeder has done lab work on the bird making sure it is free of all major diseases. It is well worth the premium you pay to know you are purchasing a disease free baby.

Many times we have seen individuals getting a good deal from a local breeder only to find out later the breeder never tested their birds and the baby they purchased had an avian born disease.

It’s not uncommon to talk to back yard breeders that tell me I have never had a disease! When I ask if they have ever tested they will say, “ I don’t have to because I have never had a disease!” That circular logic just doesn’t hold up to science.

If you are in a scenario when someone says that to you. Offer to pay the disease testing and let them know when the results come out clean you will buy the baby bird.
If the test do not come out clean you are only out the testing $$$ from animal genetics and have saved yourself a much bigger problem.

This is a baby we have Knick named “lil Nugget”! Unfortunately his parents got preoccupied with his 2 older siblings and left him to fend for himself. I found him in the corner of the nest cold and hungry. I immediately pulled him and called fellow avicultists for advice on what to do! We were told he had a very small chance of making it. Special thanks to our vet Dr.Kushinski for her protocols and Riley our curator at Parrot Baby who stayed up with little nugget around the clock and made sure he was stabilized. It took us what seemed forever to get weight on little nugget. But as you can see in the picture we took the other day he is doing amazingly well and loves attention! We will start looking for a home for nugget over the next few weeks. He is such a sweet soul.

How scammers prey on people within FB comment section.
Yesterday I posted about a rare opaline macaw mutation. In the comments section a scammer stepped in waiting for people to interact with them. Posting this so you can spot these people on your own and you can stay away from them.

One of the rarest mutations in all the macaw world. The opaline Blue and gold macaw. This is not a hybrid. But a mutation where the gold shimmers thru. Took these pictures on an overcast day in the Philippines thanks to our friends at RS Aviary for hosting us and allowing us to tour! Appreciate our friends Myko's Aviary for making this connection happen!

Male eclectus. I have had multiple people give me their opinions on this. Does anyone know if this is a vitamin deficiency that causes the orange/red facial coloration. Bird was a pet owner who gave me permission to share.

So so true! Unfortunately many of these people are the ones that get scammed.

So so true! Unfortunately many of these people are the ones that get scammed.

I'm not sure why this happens but I frequently receive messages from people inquiring about my birds, who are shocked to hear the cost. We are not giving out free birds, we are not a rescue, this is not charity. Handraising baby birds is extremely labor intensive, time consuming and expensive. Not only are the babies handfed for 4 months, the parents also require the obvious basics of care, food, space, testing, enrichment and all the things an ethical breeder provides for their birds. Our cost is well under pet shops and we disease test every single baby which you receive a copy of with your bird.

I avoid using words that seem to draw these individuals who assume everything is free such as "rehoming" and "adopting" but without fail I get dozens of messages a day still assuming I am giving out handraised baby parrots for a few hundred or free 🤦🏽‍♀️

If you cannot afford a handraised baby parrot, please contact a rescue or look for someone rehoming an adult bird. The difference of taking in an adult and acquiring a well rounded socialized healthy baby is immense, but completely fine for those that do not want to invest. I will not be responding to the messages I receive anymore assuming I'm giving birds away.
