Our 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier, Renzo, is missing, and we are seeking assistance.

Renzo went missing along I-75 Southbound in Florida on February 23 approximately between 1 PM and 2 PM ET. We believe the most likely location is the Rest Area near Mile Marker 413 in Lake City (Columbia County). The rear hatch of the SUV was opened there, and it is possible he slipped out without being noticed. My mom had eyes on him in the car before she opened the back of the SUV, so we know he was there, but he often gets excited and jumps out of the back of the car within seconds.

He was later discovered missing when the vehicle stopped at Exit 354 in Ocala, so there is a secondary possibility that when my mom stopped at McDonald's he jumped out then, but it is unlikely since he has good recall and she was calling for him.

Renzo:
• 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier
• Wearing camo harness and gray hood
• Not wearing a collar
• Not microchipped
• Very sweet temperament

My mother is in her mid-70s, and Renzo is her companion and emotional support. We are doing everything possible to bring him home.

PATRICK & PENELOPE (FLORIDA)
Patrick is a 2.5 year old, 10 lb Yorkie male and Penelope is his 1.5 year old 10 lb daughter. This adorable pair is being fostered in Crestview, FL.
Patrick and daughter Penelope come to us from loving homes where they were well cared for. The family situation changed and their owners reached out for help to make sure these young, healthy and adorable pups find a perfect home. Patrick is Penelope’s biological father and we’d love for them to be adopted together. They have just landed in rescue but are reported to be sweet, loving dogs who will make some lucky adopter very happy! They LITERALLY “just landed” by hitching a ride via Pilots N Paws to their foster home so stay tuned for updates! This is cuteness overload. Any questions, please email foster mom at [email protected]

Florida is stepping up for tiny Yorkies and every other shelter animal looking for a second chance.
Dexter’s Law creates an official animal‑abuser registry and allows rescues and shelters to screen adopters before a Yorkie goes home. Named after Dexter, a shelter bulldog who was killed by the person who adopted him, this law is meant to stop that kind of tragedy from repeating.
With this registry, staff can catch people with a record of abuse before they sign adoption papers. The law also strengthens penalties for abandonment and cruelty, making it riskier to mistreat a Yorkie and then simply move on.
The goal: more Yorkies in safe laps and fewer in the hands of people who should never have a pet in the first place.
