Hurricane Season is here!

It's crucial to prepare not just for yourself, but also for your furry, feathered, or scaled friends. Make sure you're pets are up to date on their vaccines and microchips. Shelters will not accept pets if they do not meet vaccination and testing requirements! Please call us to schedule an appointment! 813-885-2791

Here's a checklist to help keep your pets safe:

Identification: Ensure your pet has up-to-date ID tags with your current contact information. Consider microchipping if they aren't already.

Use this handy checklist to help you prepare!

Evacuation Plan: Know your evacuation route and have a designated safe place for your pets. Many shelters don't accept animals, so research pet-friendly options in advance.

Veterinarian Check-up: Schedule a vet visit to ensure your pet is healthy and up-to-date on vaccinations. We can also prescribe medication to help with your pet's anxiety during these stressful months.

Boarding: If you're evacuating and can't take your pet, arrange boarding ahead of time. Shelters fill up quickly!
Stay Safe, Everyone!

Happy World Turtle Day from Town N Country Animal Hospital! 🐢

These shelled companions bring a unique charm to our world. Did you know that turtles and tortoises play a vital role in their ecosystems? They help control vegetation, aerate the soil, and even disperse seeds!

Let’s celebrate these amazing creatures by protecting their habitats and ensuring their survival. Here are a few simple ways you can help:
Keep our beaches clean: Turtles often nest on beaches, and trash can harm both adults and hatchlings.
Support conservation efforts: Donate to or volunteer with organizations dedicated to turtle conservation.
Learn more about turtles: The more we know, the better we can protect them!

Share your favorite turtle facts or photos in the comments!

Today is National Lost Dog Awareness Day!

Here are some preventative steps you can take to keep your pet from going missing:
● Keep your dog secure. Whether on a leash or in a fenced yard, your dog is less likely to wander if it is secured.
● Training is valuable. Dogs who have been trained by a professional are less likely to go missing.
● Always supervise your animal. Dogs, especially expensive purebreds, can be stolen even from a fenced yard.
● Tags and microchipping help with the recovery of a missing animal.
● Spaying and neutering reduce your pet’s likelihood of wandering off in search of a mate and helps eliminate the chances of unwanted offspring should your dog wander off unexpectedly.
● Keep records up to date on your animals. That includes photos, vaccinations, and valuable tags & microchips.

Give us a call to schedule an appointment to microchip and/or spay/neuter your pet today! 813-885-2791

Is your brachycephalic breed struggling to breathe?

Many brachycephalic dog breeds (like Pugs, Bulldogs, Frenchies) suffer from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). This can lead to snoring, noisy breathing, exercise intolerance, and even life-threatening respiratory distress.

Brachycephalic Airway Corrective Surgery can help!

This surgery addresses the underlying anatomical issues causing BOAS, improving your pet's quality of life significantly. The procedure typically involves:

Soft Palate Resection: Shortening the soft palate to reduce airway obstruction.
Nostril Reshaping: Widening the nostrils to improve airflow.
Everted saccule resection: Removal of saccules to reduce airway obstruction.

Benefits of the surgery often include:

Easier breathing
Improved exercise tolerance
Reduced snoring and noisy breathing
Increased quality of life

Here at Town N Country Animal Hospital, we strive to help your pets live a long, fulfilling life! Give us a call at 813-885-2791 to see if your pet is a candidate for this life-changing surgery. Early intervention is key!

Spaying and neutering not only help control the pet population but also contribute to the overall health and well-being of your furry friends. Here are some key benefits:

Help reduce the number of homeless pets in our community.
