Next up on our meet the trainer series 🥁
Meet Brigid, Brigid’s journey into dog training began with her childhood dog, a lovable but unruly companion who was a terror on the streets yet a sweetheart at home. She knew there had to be a way to enjoy outings together, rather than leaving her dog behind, convinced that their behavior was out of her control. After diving into YouTube videos and trying out training techniques with her first dog, Nyx, she not only loved the results but also found joy in watching Nyx learn and thrive. That passion inspired Brigid to leave her job in healthcare and pursue dog training full-time.
Her commitment to the craft took her far, earning accreditations and working with as many dogs as possible. Then came Zigi—a shelter dog who seemed like a perfect match but quickly revealed deeper challenges. Brigid thought her new dog training skills could help, but his anxiety and insecurity tested her in ways she hadn’t anticipated. After four years of struggling with positive reinforcement alone, she sought out balanced training techniques, and they were a game-changer for both her and Zigi.
Through that experience, Brigid discovered her true calling: specializing in reactivity and aggression rehab. Interning with balanced trainers allowed her to build a toolbox of effective methods, and now, with thousands of dogs trained, she’s helping owners and their pets communicate better and build strong, respectful relationships.
Her current dog, Poppy, a mini Australian Shepherd, is a testament to her dedication. As a well-trained service dog, Poppy has exceeded Brigid’s expectations and continues to inspire her to seek out new training methods. Whether working with service dogs or helping a reactive dog find peace, Brigid’s goal is to ensure that dogs stay in their homes, thriving alongside their families.
And let’s not forget her time running a successful dog training business in Okinawa, Japan, where Brigid gained invaluable international experience. She’s always eager to share her knowledge and help more dogs live their best lives.
Brigid was the first addition to the Total Dog Team and we are incredibly grateful to have her ✨
