I am planning to create three hour retreats for people who need to have a place to reconnect with a sense of peace and quiet that at times can be elusive during the pandemic. I would teach skills for you to feel peaceful, and then have you invite a horse into your peaceful space. Please let me know if you are interested. As I have three horses and three separate areas, I think we can stay safe with two people per horse, so a total of six. I want to start mid-March. You can come to one or more!

Peggy Jordan and I are both certified under this wonderful program. Peggy has an advanced certification as equine specialist, and I have a certification plus am licensed as clinical psychologist.

We know Eagala isn't the only mental health service out there. It can be overwhelming to sort through all the different options.

So to make things easier, here are the "cliff notes" on Eagala:

1) The Eagala Model is a team approach that includes a licensed, credentialed Mental Health Professional, a qualified Equine Specialist, and horses working together with the client in an arena at all times.

2) All work is done on the ground. The horses are front and center, deliberately unhindered and never ridden, and allowed to interact with the client as they wish. This creates the space for the client, with the support of the professional facilitators, to reflect, project, and make deep connections.

3) We provide mental health and personal development services incorporating horses. Horses are intelligent prey animals who instinctively analyze and react to our nonverbal cues providing us with valuable insights for other areas of our lives.

Welcome to our team Ann Marie!

Here is her impressive bio:

Ann Marie Tavares grew up with horses, and under the watchful eye of her grandfather she learned to respect the complex communication of a herd of horses. At an early age she also learned to ride (in fact, before she could ride a bike!). This early experience motivated a quest to gain an understanding of the relationships of horses with each other, and with humans. Years of experience with horses have allowed deeper insight into the equine language. Ann Marie is excited about applying her lifelong pursuit of understanding horse behavior in the therapeutic setting at Red Hills Equine Therapy. Ann Marie currently has two horses offsite from the practice.

At Red Hills Equine Therapy Ann Marie will be the equine specialist. At the same time, she is interested in the therapeutic process and is in fact working on a doctorate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She also is a certified and active member of the FWC Crisis Intervention Stress Management Team, which is part of the International Crisis Intervention Stress Management Foundation (ICISMF).

Ann Marie has been an award-winning bio-illustrator and graphic artist for over 20 years. It has been a privilege to work on projects with clients including the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Macys, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Her artwork may be seen on sea turtle decals, regulatory signs ranging from Panama City crayfish and snail kite protection zones, illustrations for FWC hunter safety courses to trailer wraps for the Exotic Pet Amnesty and Hunter Safety Programs.
