Dr. Sarah, a local veterinarian, didn’t plan to adopt a pet when she came in to volunteer at the shelter—but one charming bunny had other ideas! 🐰
While taking a quick pause near the rabbit kennels to eat her bagel, she caught the attention of a fluffy little rabbit. “He hopped right over and was sniffing through the bars of the kennel like he wanted a morsel,” she said. “When I didn’t share, he just stayed right there and munched on his pellets. It was so endearing and I felt like we were having breakfast together.” 🥯
That little moment sealed the deal. She returned later with her family to meet him, and by the next day, Mochi was on the way to his new home! 🎉
Mochi is now a beloved part of the family. He’s litter box trained, comes when called and even knows the phrase “home time” as his cue to hop back to his hutch at night. His favorite treats are strawberries and banana chips, and when he’s excited, he leaps into the air and kicks his back feet. 🍓🍌
According to Dr. Sarah, adopting from the shelter was super easy and efficient. “He was already neutered and only $10 — best deal ever.” And while her family had to adjust (like hiding all the charging cords), life is undeniably sweeter with Mochi around. He loves licks her son’s face, sending him into fits of giggles.🐇
Mochi’s story is a perfect reminder that Tallahassee Animal Services is home to more than just dogs and cats. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small pets are often available for adoption, too. Thinking about adding a new companion to your home? Take Dr. Sarah’s advice: “Do it!”❣️
