One final update on Potato. 💔

Unfortunately, Potato’s assessment did not go the way we had hoped.

The mass in his throat was still just as large as it was when it was discovered last week, but this time it was filled with blood. After performing an ultrasound to evaluate the mass, Dr. Gill found that Potato’s jugular vein and carotid artery were running directly along the backside of it.

At that point, surgery was no longer a safe option. Attempting to remove the mass carried an estimated 90% chance that Potato would bleed out during the procedure. As much as we wanted to fight for him, that risk was simply too high.

After discussing the findings with our veterinary team, we made the incredibly difficult decision to let Potato go peacefully this evening. It was the kindest gift we could give him, sparing him from further suffering and allowing him to rest. He crawled up onto my chest after being given the meds and fell asleep one final time while being held.

These decisions are never easy, and they never get easier. Potato was deeply loved, and we are heartbroken that we couldn’t give him the outcome we were all hoping for.

Run free and feast on all those bugs, tater boy. 🌈

Midday Vet Update!

We wanted to give everyone a quick update on today’s vet visit!

So far, Othello and Shine have both made it through their procedures and are currently in recovery.

Othello had both the large mass and a smaller mass removed today. We will be keeping a close eye on both surgical sites as they heal and doing everything we can to make sure this handsome guy continues moving in the right direction.

Shine had a full dental cleaning performed, and WOW… her mouth is looking so much better already! We’re hopeful that getting all of that cleaned up will help her feel more comfortable and get her on the road to recovery.

Potato is the last patient of the day. We are still waiting to hear more about what is going on with him and what his prognosis may be. As soon as we know more, we’ll be sure to update all of you.

If you’d like to help with today’s vet expenses, donations can be made through the PayPal link on our website homepage or via Venmo ().

Today’s visit involves multiple procedures and surgeries, so every donation truly makes a difference for these animals. If donating isn’t possible right now, sharing, liking, and commenting on our posts helps tremendously too.

Thank you all for continuing to support these incredible reptiles and the work we do for them. ❤️

Pictures included are before and after pictures of Shines teeth.

Vet Day at the Rescue!!

Today is one of those days that reminds us why rescue work is so important… and why it can be so hard.

We have three bearded dragons headed to the vet today, and all three will be going under sedation for procedures.

Shine is having a deep dental cleaning performed in hopes of getting her painful mouth infection under control. We are crossing our fingers that this helps her feel better and gets her back on the road to recovery.

Potato is going under sedation so Dr. Gill can take a closer look at the mass in his throat. His weight has been steadily dropping, and we are very worried about what we may find. Please keep this sweet boy in your thoughts today.

Othello will be undergoing surgery to remove the large growth on his side. We are hopeful that everything goes smoothly and that this is the first step toward getting him feeling better.

With three procedures happening today, this vet visit is going to be a big one financially. As always, we never want cost to be the reason an animal doesn’t get the care it needs, so we do what we have to do and figure it out later.

If you’d like to help support today’s veterinary care, donations can be made through PayPal using the link on our website homepage or via Venmo ().

If donating isn’t possible right now, you can still help us tremendously by liking, commenting, and sharing this post so more people see it.

We will update everyone as soon as these three are awake, recovering, and we have more information.

Thank you all for supporting these animals and for keeping Shine, Potato, and Othello in your thoughts today. ❤️

Last night brought some great news here at the rescue… Olympias bloodwork came back and he has officially been CLEARED FOR ADOPTION! 🎉

This handsome guy is ready to leave the medical ward and start searching for his forever home.

The evening wasn’t over there, though. We also made a late-night run to our vet to pick up a surrendered box turtle. This poor little turtle has never had access to proper UVB lighting, and as a result, his shell hasn’t developed the way it should. Right now, he’s literally outgrowing the space available inside his shell. Between eating a meal and trying to p**p he is prolapsing because there just isn't room. 💔

We’re hopeful that with proper UVB, nutrition, and care, we can help him grow stronger and healthier over time.

When we got back from the vet, I decided it was finally Olympia’s turn to move out of medical and into adoptables. It was well past bedtime for dragons, but I knew he’d appreciate the upgrade. So I gently woke him up, moved him into his new enclosure, and within minutes he had picked out his favorite spot, stretched out, and tucked himself in for the night.

And can we just take a moment to appreciate those LEGS?! 😂❤️

If you’ve been looking for a bearded dragon to add to your family, Olympia is officially ready to meet you!

We currently have two bearded dragons in our care that are under stray hold.

One was found in the Olympia area, and the other was found at Wapato Park in Tacoma.

One of these dragons is especially unique and will be very recognizable to their owner. In fact, we have a hard time believing this little one wasn’t deeply loved and cared for. We know someone may be missing their scaley family member and searching for answers.

If you’re missing a bearded dragon, please reach out to us. Your baby may be safe and waiting here for you.

Even if these aren’t your dragons, you can still help! Please like, comment, and share this post far and wide so we can reunite these reptiles with their families. A share could be the difference between a lost dragon and a happy reunion!

Let’s get these babies back where they belong. ❤️🦎

Weekend update! 🦎🐍🐢

As the weekend comes to a close, we wanted to give everyone an update on everything that’s been happening around the rescue.

First, Saturday was absolutely incredible! We had so many people stop by to visit, adopt, shop for equipment, ask questions, and just spend some time with the animals. It was busy from the moment we opened until the doors closed, and honestly, we loved every minute of it. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us!

Now for our vet trip Saturday.

Of the 9 reptiles that went to the vet, 8 came back home with us.

Sadly, Kona the ball python did not.

Kona had a large tumor growing in his lower jaw, and after discussing his quality of life, we made the difficult decision to let him go peacefully. These are never easy choices, but we never want an animal to suffer. Rest easy, sweet boy. ❤️

Now for some happier updates:

🎉 Depoe and Brad were both cleared for adoption!

And here’s the fun fact of the day: Depoe has NO TEETH. None. Zero. So if you’ve always wanted a bearded dragon that physically cannot bite you, she may be your perfect match.

🐍 Nuri, the ball python who had been regurgitating meals with her previous owner, looks good overall. We’ve gotten her into a proper setup with appropriate heat, and now we’re going to see if she starts acting more like a snake should.

🐍 Kitty, our ball python who was attacked by a cat, is doing well. She received an antibiotic injection and came home with additional medications to help prevent infection from cat saliva. So far, she’s looking good.

🦎 Shine’s mouth infection is still giving her trouble. She’ll be heading back to the vet on Friday for a deep dental cleaning to see if that helps get her feeling better.

🦎 Then there’s Potato.

Potato came in because he wasn’t p**ping regularly. What we found was not what we expected. He has a very large mass in his throat that’s taking up roughly two-thirds of the available space. He’ll be returning on Friday for sedation and further diagnostics so we can get a better idea of exactly what we’re dealing with. *I included a picture for those curious*

🦎 Olympia, one of our big stray Beardie's , had us concerned because of some unusual breathing patterns we’d noticed. The good news is that he looks good overall! We’re running bloodwork just to make sure nothing is hiding beneath the surface, but there’s a very real chance he may be cleared for adoption soon as well.

🐢 And finally, Herbie the Russian tortoise.

We had some shell damage evaluated, and our vet agrees there are a few spots we’d like to keep an eye on as new growth comes in. The good news is that he isn’t actively sick and there is no infection present. For now, he’ll simply be monitored to make sure everything continues healing properly.

All in all, it was a pretty decent vet trip.

We got some answers, made some progress, celebrated some wins, and said goodbye to one very loved snake.

Thank you all for continuing to support what we do. Now we’re rolling into a new week with a long to-do list, a building full of reptiles, and plenty of hope for what comes next. ❤️

🩺🦎 Vet day at the rescue!

Today we have 9 scaly babies headed to the vet, each with their own story and reason for being seen.

Depoe the bearded dragon is in for a wellness exam and, if all goes well, may be cleared for adoption!

Herbie the Russian tortoise is being seen for some shell damage on his carapace.

Shine the bearded dragon is being evaluated for an infection in her mouth.

Olympia the bearded dragon is being seen for a possible upper respiratory infection.

Potato the bearded dragon is making a visit because he just won’t p**p. Sometimes the simplest problems can turn into bigger concerns, so we want to make sure everything is okay.

Brad the bearded dragon is in for a general wellness exam.

Kitty the ball python is being treated for cat bite wounds.

Kona the ball python is being seen for a quality of life assessment. He has what we believe is a large tumor in his lower jaw, and today will help us determine what options may be available for him moving forward.

Nuri the ball python is being evaluated after a history of regurgitating meals with her previous owner.

Vet days are never easy. Some appointments bring exciting news and the possibility of adoption. Others bring difficult conversations and decisions that we never look forward to making. No matter the outcome, every animal deserves access to veterinary care and the chance to have their health concerns addressed.

We’re incredibly grateful for our veterinary team. They help us celebrate the victories, navigate the heartbreak, and provide the care our animals need. We truly couldn’t do this work without them.

Donations for today's group of visits can be made to our PayPal linked on our website, or via Venmo (fwfrr). We thank you for your support.

Please keep all 9 of these scaly babies in your thoughts today. We’ll share updates as we learn more.
