Losing a beloved family member – your pet – is an absolutely heartbreaking experience. In that desperate moment, you instinctively turn to organizations that are supposed to help. But I need to share a deeply frustrating reality I've encountered with the CNY SPCA, and it's a story echoed by far too many in our community.
This shelter used to have a critical online webpage where they'd post descriptions and photos of every found animal. It was a lifeline for worried owners, a beacon of hope in a dark time. That page is still gone. Completely deleted, and it has not been reinstated. How can a facility claim to facilitate reuniting lost pets when they remove such a fundamental tool for public access?
When you reach out for help, instead of genuine assistance, you're often given nothing more than a list of external phone numbers and a harsh tone. This is not help, it's a wild goose chase when you're at your most vulnerable. And I've heard, and personally witnessed, heartbreaking accounts of people finding their pets at this very shelter, only to be denied reunification, even when within the 10-day hold period that is supposed to be legally protected.
There is a consistent and alarming lack of transparency from this organization. It's become evident, time and again, that they seem to disregard established laws and regulations, choosing instead to operate by their own rules.
This situation is simply unacceptable. When does this stop? When will accountability finally happen for an organization that is failing its core mission and, more importantly, failing the desperate families and lost animals in our community? We deserve better they animals deserve better!

It's been a while since my last post. I've mostly been observing and reading. I was excited to hear about the investigation, but honestly, I'm not very hopeful about the outcome. Something that confused me was someone who had been posting about the situation, but previously attacked this page and other posters. It baffles me: if they've known about these issues for at least ten years, why did they do nothing? And if they truly care about the animals, why attack those trying to advocate for them?

While I'm glad that individuals have finally come forward, confirming what this page has been saying, I'm upset that they condoned and defended the behavior for so long. Now, many people are posting about their experiences, which is positive. But will it be enough? And why are they still allowed to operate normally during the investigation? I've never stopped fighting for change, and I never will, even when attacked for speaking up. What will you do?

I'd like to bring attention to the recent departure of the CNY SPCA's CEO after only a year and six months. This development raises concerns about the organization's ability to retain suitable leadership and implement necessary positive changes. Furthermore, the recent increase in adoption fees is noteworthy, making the process more challenging and comparable to purchasing from a private individual. Additionally, the organization's website still lacks updated information on lost and found pets, contrary to New York State law requiring shelters to maintain current records and post photographs of stray animals online. Specifically, the law mandates daily updates and efforts to notify possible owners, including telephone, mail, and personal service. It appears these regulations are not being adhered to, potentially complicating reunifications for lost pets.

1 step forward and 10 steps back.

I'm truly hoping this was just a big oversight on their part. It looks like they made some new changes recently. A little while back I posted about the confusing location for their lost pets and walked you thru how. Well...Sadly they have completely removed any sign of a lost and found animal. Which mind you is in the new Act that just passed and states they need to keep this list updated atleast once daily. But now there is just a list of places to call and try. Only now making it harder on people. What is it are they are hoping to keep them and not reunite them with their family so they can make money off of them??? Oh by the way if you plan on surrendering a pet. Be prepared to be turned away if they have ANY medical issues and possibly pay close to $100. This is going to cause alot of people to dump an animal or lie about their health. And we already know the SPCA lies about their health as it is. I guess they truly are about the almighty dollar and its never going to change is it???

It is sad when I need to say name calling and cursing will not be tolerated here. It's even sadder that it came from employees of the CNY SPCA. But again, this I've learned from many who have reached out this is a typical experience. We are all adults and should be capable of having a civilized conversations. Please if you are that upset take it in a private chat.

A bit ago I post a video of the Cny Spca using a prong collar. I did some research into it to see if there were any regulations on this. Turns out there is. There is a Federal not State but a FEDERAL LAW in place saying what is and is not acceptable. The only things that are under their class of license is Leather or Plastic collars. This can be found under the Federal Animal Welfare Act which has been in place for years. The only way they can ever use these is to ask and be approved on a case by case basis. And each person that works or volunteers has to go under training for these. It's pretty informative with a lot of other good information. I am completely disgusted with watching how they are using these. And how clear as day they have no idea how to use them properly. And I am positive after this post they will no longer show these and will continue to do this behind closed doors. Things need to change laws need to be followed you can't just pick and choose! Do Better CNY SPCA!!

This is a great read for anyone looking to add to their family and wanting to adopt from a shelter/rescue. Ask questions you have a right to know ans you should know. If they can't or refuse to answer take that as a red flag and walk away.

So, you decided to rescue a dog from the animal shelter. Today we have a helpful list of 30 important questions to ask when adopting a dog.

I welcome conversations on how to improve the issues at hand as this is the ultimate end goal. The CNY SPCA is apart of a national organization that strives to be the best. But this is not happening and I will not stay silent and I will raise my voice for those that can't. It appears that I have struck the nerve of 2 employees. And sadly they do not want to talk they just want to make excuses and call names. This is nothing new as they have attacked people wanting to adopt or donate or anyone who says differently about what is going on behind close doors. These poor animals have been and are going thru so much. They deserve nothing but the best. And transparency is important. Let's fix the issues make things better!
