Some grow out and current updates are needed 😍 he lost part parts of his cushion in a boy fight but looord the chocolate boy had. Glow up. I actually have two that look very similar.

The mauve really is LARGE all around and the white took twice as long to bloom byt he got there. Then the blue has been evening himself out

I cannot thank this breeder enough for giving me these young boys. They were well worth that almost 2 hour one way trip.

Shes gonna go in as probably the youngest pullet but I think she has a fighting chance..
For our county fair pullets and cockerals must be hatched no eariler than Jan. 1st of that yeats fair so unfortunately for breeds like silkies it sucks when I dont have any hatched thay early I didnt find out till later on.

So miss thang here will just barely be 4 months by fair time. Home grown and I LOVE that for Laikyn. Shes very excited to see how she places and is fully aware due to her age she may not do as well as we hope. But she said thats okay she'll kick but next year at fair as a hen. I mean yes girl yes!!!

Three years ago this started with one goal… helping Laikyn raise silkies for fair.
Somewhere along the way, it turned into so much more than that. ❤️
What started as a small project turned into late nights, early mornings, learning genetics, learning losses, celebrating wins, building coops, hatching chicks, traveling for birds, meeting amazing breeders, and slowly building a program we’re truly proud of.
We didn’t just buy random birds and hope for the best. We’ve worked hard to build quality birds with lines from all over from Florida to Michigan and beyond — always chasing improvement and learning every step of the way.
And the coolest part?
Laikyn has been hands-on through ALL of it.
Feeding. Cleaning. Learning. Watching hatch days. Picking breeders. Handling chicks. Asking questions. Loving these little fluff balls with her whole heart.
Now crunch time for fair is here… and honestly? Mom nerves are REAL right now. ☠️😂
I’m anxious, paranoid, overprotective, and watching these birds like a security guard working a double shift because we don’t exactly have backups sitting around.
But no matter what happens in that show ring… win, lose, or draw… we are proud.
Proud of the birds.
Proud of the growth.
Proud of the knowledge gained.
And most importantly… proud of the little girl behind it all.
This is only the beginning for LD Small Town Silkies. We’ve already got chicks growing out for Fall 2026 shows and plans for 2027. We’re going to keep learning, keep improving, and keep building something special one hatch at a time. 🖤
And if nothing else… these silkies have taught Laikyn something bigger than ribbons:
Hard work, patience, dedication, and passion matter.
